Jason bought 10 packs of balloons for his birthday party. Each pack contains 10 balloons.
How many balloons did Jason have for his party?
Solution:
We could add all the balloons in each of the 10 packs of balloons. But since repeated addition is similar to
multiplication, it is easier to multiply the number of packs of balloons by the number of balloons in each
pack.
Number of packs of balloons = 10
Number of balloons in each pack = 10
= 100

1. From January to February there was a slight decrease in the number of sales. There was a
steady increase over the period February to April.. There was a drastic decrease of sales
in May.
2. Sales decreased for the period January to February, while for the period February to April
the number of music systems sold increased each month.
3. The number of music systems sold for April to May decrease from 1000 to 600 systems.
A decrease of 400 systems.
4. “increased constantly” The number of music systems sold were approximately the same
for each period. That is, February to March and March to April.

A. The data represent temperature taken on the hour from 6am to 6pm at a school camp.
There was a slight decrease in the temperature from 6 am to 7 am. From 7am to3pm there
was a gradual increase in the temperature except for the temperature taken at 11 am
where there was a a slight decrease. The temperature was at its highest at 3pm and
gradual decrease each hour from 4pm to 6pm
B. What words can be used to describe the changes in temperature over the periods:
