Welcome to Scope Teacher’s Toolkit

Introduction
The Scope Teacher’s Toolkit is a bank of photocopiable resources designed to
provide further practice and assessment for your students, and to support your
teaching.

Test centre
The Test centre provides a range of tests including:
• Diagnostic, End-of-term and End-of-year Review tests
• Grammar and Vocabulary tests for each unit
• Skills tests for each unit including Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing.
Each test is supplied as a PDF so that you can ‘print and go’ and as an editable
document, so that you can customise the test to suit your individual needs.

Photocopiable worksheets
There is also a complete range of Photocopiable worksheets including:
• Vocabulary and Grammar worksheets
• Reading worksheets
• Communication worksheets
• CLIL worksheets
• Drama worksheets
The worksheets are designed to support your students’ development of language
and skills through further review of the main language syllabus of the course, and to
provide extension work through extra reading and communication pairwork. The
worksheets can be used for assessment, as an extension task to give fast finishers in
class, or as consolidation work for those students who need more practice.

Extra resources
The extra resources include:
• Unit-by-unit Wordlists
• The Oxford 3000 wordlist
• Lesson plan templates

Please note
This disc can also be used in a CD player to play the audio for the Drama and the
listening element of the tests in the classroom.
All the worksheets and tests can be photocopied freely for classroom use. They
may not be sold without the permission of Oxford University Press.

How to use and edit tests
Tests can be set as homework, or done in class under exam conditions.
As the tests are editable, they can also be adapted to suit the specific needs of your
students. You may want to add something extra you taught in class, remove
something you decided to omit or didn’t have time to teach, or even personalise
the exercises.
You can easily do this by:
• adding, removing, or editing sections
• adding, removing, or editing questions or texts.
You may also want to:
• put more than one test together – for example, if you want to review the
topics from several units at the same time, you could combine two or more
tests into one longer test.
• make the layout or question types match other tests you use or that your
students are preparing for.
Remember to save your customised worksheets and tests on your computer if you
want to use them another time.

Diagnostic test
This test is designed to be used at the beginning of the course, to assess students’
current knowledge.

End-of-term test
This test is a cumulative test, designed to be used after the first five units.

End-of-year test
This test is a cumulative test, designed to be used at the end of the course.

Grammar and Vocabulary tests

These tests are designed to assess your students’ knowledge of the target language
of the unit. To support you in addressing mixed ability, the tests are supplied at two
levels of difficulty; Standard (which matches the level of the Student’s Book) and
Challenge (which requires students to go beyond the Student’s Book and use more
productive skills).

Skills tests
There is one test per unit, which assesses Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing
skills. The Skills tests provide ideal practice for external exams as they recreate
realistic exam-style activities, enabling students to familiarise themselves with the
strategies they need to succeed in exams. As the tests focus on language that
students have learnt in class, the language level is more manageable. Through
regular practice, students can gain experience and confidence in exam techniques.
For the listening tests, you can play the audio on this CD in a CD-player. You can also
play the MP3 file on your computer if you want to preview the listening. The audio
script is included in the tests answer key.

Photocopiable worksheets

Vocabulary and Grammar

These worksheets provide further practice of the target vocabulary and grammar of
each unit. The worksheets are designed to support you in addressing mixed ability,
and are provided at two levels of difficulty; Standard (which matches the level of the
Student’s Book) and Challenge (which requires students to go beyond the Student’s
Book and use more productive skills).

How to use
Use the Standard worksheets for reinforcement and consolidation with weaker and
average students, and the Challenge worksheets for extension activities for stronger
students and fast finishers.

Reading
This section includes worksheets for further reading practice. There is one worksheet
per unit of the Student’s Book. The worksheets focus on Middle Eastern topics which
will be of particular relevance and interest to your students.

These worksheets are linked to the PISA (Programme for International Student
Assessment) framework, which states that:
“Reading literacy is understanding, using, reflecting on and engaging with written
texts, in order to achieve one’s goals, to develop one’s knowledge and potential, and
to participate in society.”

The texts provide different text types: reports, articles, expositions, website texts,
charts, surveys, biographies and so on. In addition to reading comprehension
activities, the worksheets are designed to develop critical thinking skills as students
are encouraged to interpret and reflect on the topic they have read.

How to use
Photocopy one worksheet per student and assign for class work or homework. You
can also use the worksheets for assessment purposes, or to generate class
discussions and presentations.
Alternatively, you can use these worksheets to address mixed ability in your class.
The worksheets will provide more challenge for stronger students.

Communication
This section includes five communication pairwork activities. Each activity has been
designed to provide additional communicative pairwork practice for the classroom.
Students can practise and improve their spoken English. Encourage them to recycle
the conversation phrases from the Speaking lessons and to pay attention to their
pronunciation.

CLIL
This section includes five CLIL worksheets. These worksheets provide further reading
practice and encourage students to think about other curriculum subjects in English.

How to use
Photocopy one worksheet per student and assign for class work or homework. You
can also use the worksheets to generate class discussions and presentations.
Alternatively, you can use these worksheets to address mixed ability in your class.
The worksheets will provide more challenge for stronger students.

Drama
There are two Drama worksheets. These can be used as fun end-of-term activities,
and to develop students’ pronunciation and confidence in speaking. You can play the
audio on this CD in a CD player. You can also play the MP3 file on your computer if
you want to preview the listening.

How to use
Follow the teaching notes supplied with the Drama worksheets.
