Into the Hero…

After getting to know the two major characters, Beowulf and Grendel, get to know the movie better by
answering the questions that follow.

1. What was the problem that arose in the story? (5 points)

Grendel massacred the Danish warriors and women in Heorot. King Hrothgar then placed a bounty for Grendel’s head in
which Beowulf took on the task together with his men.

2. What does Heorot hall symbolize and why? (5 points)

Rally point and eatery for Danish warriors. Heorot was specifically designed for the amusement of Danish
warriors, this included women and food.

3. Why did Grendel attack King Hrothgar’s people? (5 points)

Grendel is very sensitive to sound; he doesn’t like it when people are loud and it hurts his ears. If the warriors
were a little quitter with the chanting, then Grendel wouldn’t have attacked them.

4. Why did Beowulf seem to have an all-powerful stature in the story? (5 points)
He was a Captain of 14 men he then became king after defeating Grendel. His influence stretched far as stories
about him spread after countless victories and feats.

5. Who among our modern-day heroes would you liken Beowulf to? Why? (5 points)
General Antonio Luna, he is brave, fought for what is right. He made us realize that our greatest enemy as
countrymen is ourselves. General Luna is just as good if not better than Beowulf.
6. How do people overcome life struggles that require them to choose sides between the good and the bad?
(5 points)
We decide based on what we are feeling, we choose the side that has the same morals and ideas as we do. If you
want to overcome the struggles, you ask for help. There is nothing wrong with asking for help from people.
