FOREWORD
After two and half months of intense classroom study and plant visits, there followed up a couple of interactions. The first one was with the Additional general manager (Mr Shanmugam) and lead guides of group A, B & C respectively, while the second one was with the General Managers and Additional general manager in which we were finalized our department. The result of this was announced and it came as a good news for some while some were in dismay after the results. The reason was only one getting their respective choices. I was fortunate enough to get a department of my choice i.e. the quality department. After the announcement of the departments another news came which held us down was that we were about to leave our training centre HRDC which we were enjoying for the previous two months and a half. Now it was the turn to make our heads into the quality department. There were 12 boys who were posted in the quality department. Straightaway we were directed to meet our General Manager i.e. Mr J KANNAN. He welcomed us warm heartedly with some of his nostalgic expressions greeting us. I go into the details of the exposure that the quality department had to offer us during this month of April.

CALIBARTION LAB:
The calibration lab is situated behind the valves shop and is currently undergoing the process of renovation and modernisation. The calibration lab caters to the need of BHEL instruments and equipments and it also has a unique feature that it also earns revenue for BHEL by calibrating the instruments for the customers who do not have these facilities of calibration. The calibration lab of BHEL has got accreditation from the National Accreditation Board of Laboratories NABL. For this very reason it holds the right to certify other external customers. The calibration lab consists of equipments having an accuracy running into microns in metres of length. The pressure gauges are also calibrated here and they have are given a certificate to be used safely for a certified period of time. After that period they have to be rebrought for calibration again for getting the certification to run safely again. After the calibration is done on a specific instrument then records are maintained by the calibration lab so that nothing gets duplicated and non calibrated instruments are never missed. The renovation and modernisation activities will be over in a month or so and it will lead to many more machines being introduced and more variety being inculcated into the calibration lab.
