III. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students are expected to:
a. identify the type and function of the preposition used in a sentence;
b. construct sentences using the different prepositions; and
c. realize the importance of knowing and mastering the proper usage of prepositions.
IV. Materials:
Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation, Pictures, Activity Sheets
V. Procedure
A. Elicitation
i. The teacher writes a sentence that is missing a preposition (i.e. The teacher is the classroom.)
ii. The teacher asks the students with what is wrong in the sentence. Students are expected to
say, “it’s is missing something or a word”.
B. Explanation
i. The teacher reveals the missing word - (in).
ii. The teacher informs the students of the missing part of speech (preposition)
iii. Using the PowerPoint Presentation, the teacher discusses the prepositions of place and time
including their definitions and examples.
iv. The teacher gives incomplete sentences and completes them using the different prepositions of
place and time (e.g. in, on, at)
C. Controlled Practice
i. Using the PowerPoint Presentation, the teacher displays the worksheets from the Liveworksheets and
Miss Mariella Valle R.
ii. Using the PowerPoint Presentation again, the teacher displays incomplete sentences that are missing in
both prepositions of place and time.
ii. The teacher gives the instruction in doing the activity.
iii. The teacher calls a student who will answer the specified item for him/her and asks them to
complete the sentence using the preposition given in worksheets.
iv. The teacher calls a student who will answer the specified item for him/her and asks them to
complete the sentence with the appropriate prepositions of time and place.
v. The teacher gives feedback for each answer of the students and correct them if needed.
D. Skills Work
i. The teacher divides the students in five groups.
ii. The teacher instructs the students to gather with their groupmates and explains what they are
about to do.
iii. With the things present inside the classroom, each group must observe, specify things that
they prefer and construct sentences using the prepositions of place (e.g. The books are in the
locker.)
iv. The students will choose five class/school events and make sentences using the different
prepositions of time (e.g. Ma’am Anna’s birthday is on the 5th of December.)
v. Each group presents and explains their output to the class
E. Free Stage
i. The teacher asks the students to find someone whom they can pair with.
ii. The teacher instructs the students to share with each other their ideal bedroom or living room.
iii. In three sentences, each pair will write their description of their ideal bedroom or living room using
the prepositions of place (e.g. There is a chandelier on the ceiling in the bedroom). Their description
should be written in complete sentences.
iv. Using their constructed joint description, the students will draw their ideal bedroom or living room in a
manila paper.
v. The students will share their drawing to the class and explain them using their constructed sentences.
VI. Evaluation
i. The teacher conducts a recitation to the students.
ii. The teacher asks questions about the differences of the three prepositions of time and place (in, on, at).
iii. The teacher calls a student to answer the question.
iv. The teacher gives feedback for each answer of the students and correct them if needed.
VII. Assignment
The teacher asks the students to write a reflection on the significance of knowing and mastering
the proper usage of prepositions
