The topography of Delhi is generally flat, except for a low ridge that runs from north to south through the center of the city. This ridge is considered an extension of the Aravalli Hills that run through Rajasthan to the west. Delhi is bounded by the Indo-Gangetic plains to the north and east, the Thar Desert to the west, and the Aravalli hill ranges to the south. The terrain slopes down from the ridge to the flood plains of the Yamuna River.
