PRESENTE CONTINUO (RESPUESTAS CORTAS)

El presente continuo (present continous) se usa para describir acciones que


están pasando en este momento. Se construye con el verbo "to be" como
auxiliar y se agrega “ING” al verbo principal de la oración.

Ejemplos:
1. I am studying English now.
2. He is cleaning his bedroom at the moment.

RESPUESTAS CORTAS
Las respuestas cortas se utilizan para responder “sí” o “no” a una pregunta.
Con presente continuo se estructuran de la siguiente manera:

Interrogative Short answers


Am I reading? Yes, I am.
Are you playing? Yes, he/she/it is.
Yes, we/you/they are.
Is he working?
No, I am not. (I’m not)
Is she sleeping?
No, he/she/it is not. (isn’t)

(Interrogative form)

A. Observa las siguientes preguntas:

B. Las preguntas en presente continuo se forman de la siguiente manera:

C. Para responder a estas preguntas podemos hacerlo con respuestas cortas,


es decir solo contestamos sí o no. Observa los ejemplos:

Are you having lunch? No, I´m not.


Is Ann working at the moment? Yes, she is.
Are your parents living in Xalapa now? No, they aren´t.

Para formar este tipo de respuestas necesitas el pronombre de sujeto que


sustituya al sujeto de la pregunta (I, you, he,she,it, we, they) y el verbo to
be (am, is, are), que es el verbo auxiliar del presente continuo.


D. En Inglés NO se puede decir:  Los siguientes verbos no se
I´m liking tennis. utilizan en presente continuo:
I´m knowing your sister.
En su lugar se dice: like know hate love
I like tennis. understand believe mean
I know your sister. remember want

We use these words (conjunctions) to join two sentences. They make one longer
sentence from two shorter sentences, for example:
En inglés, las conjunciones AND, BUT Y OR, se utilizan para unir dos oraciones
pequeñas, en una oración larga.
Por ejemplo:

Sentence A: She speaks English. Sentence B: She speaks Spanish.

She speaks English and Spanish.

AND
La conjunción AND se utiliza para unir dos frases con el mismo sentido.
No es necesario repetir el sujeto.

BUT
La conjunción BUT se utiliza para indicar un contraste entre las dos frases.

OR
La conjunción OR se utiliza generalmente en preguntas, para unir dos frases con sentido
opuesto o disyuntivas.

Una forma de expresar la posesión es utilizando los Adjetivos Posesivos. Estos


deben ir delante de un sustantivo.

I. Look at the following examples:

 Este tipo de preguntas tiene como objetivo pedir información sobre algo específico, un lugar, una
fecha, un nombre, etc.; por lo que requieren de pronombres interrogativos (wh words) al inicio.

NOTA: Checa que hay un orden diferente con las preguntas con Who cuando se pregunta por el sujeto
quien realiza la acción:

III. Look at the following list of the most common Wh words:

Where? ¿Dónde? How long? ¿Por cuánto tiempo? ¿Cuánto dura?

Who? ¿Quién? How many? ¿Cuántos? (sustantivos contables)
How? ¿Cómo? How much? ¿Cuánto? (sustantivos incontables)

 Para contestar este tipo de preguntas debes tener claro el significado del pronombre interrogativo
( wh-word) que se está utilizando, ya que la respuesta es una información específica, por ejemplo, si
preguntas “Where is she studying?” La respuesta es el lugar donde estudia ya que where? significa
¿dónde?.

Pay attention when using “Who” to ask about the subject of
the sentence, with singulars and plurals? (Pon atención cuando uses
“Quién?” para preguntar por el sujeto de la oración, con singulares y
plurales).

Example:Who is eating ice cream? Paquito.

Who is playing video games now? Tom and Peter

But when asking about the complement, you have to ask using “is” or
“are”, according to the person in the complement. ( Pero cuando
preguntes por el complemento tienes que hacerlo, usando “is” o “are”,
de acuerdo a la persona en el complemento).

Example: Who are you talking to? I´m talking to my best friend.

Who is he going out with? He´s going out with Elizabeth.

We can use and, but and or to join two ideas, words or sentences.

And - We can use it to join words or ideas with the same sense.
