1 Peddinghaus HMI Help
1 File
1.1 Editor
Much like a normal text editor this editor only works with files with extensions mpf, spf, cbt, csv, ped, oldped,
###. Used mainly for editing part programs this editor does some of the basic functions as normal editors. For
instance, Create New files, Open and Save files, Cut, Paste, and Copy text, undo, and redo. This editor will also
be available from the File Manager seen in section 1.2. Also available but only at a secure level of access will be
the ability to copy and delete files of these extensions seen within opening and saving a file.
This feature will be used to handle most of the file interaction between the hard drive and the NC of the Siemens
840DI. The horizontal buttons will be used for dealing with the files. The vertical buttons will be for storage
location of files such as part programs, user cycles, archive files, etc. Most of these buttons are available to the
operator. Others are only available to those with high enough security access.
1.2.1 Load
This button is used to load a part program within the NC of the Siemens 840DI. Loading a file can be
accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. A loaded file will be
distinguished with a "X" symbol under the column labeled Loaded. If a file is not loaded it will be distinguished
by a symbol "-". If the symbol "!X!" appears, then this means the name of the file has been located both on the
hard drive and the NC. In this case, using the delete button to get rid of the one off the NC is in order to be able
reload the one from the hard drive.
1.2.2 Unload
This button is used to unload a part program from the NC of the Siemens 840DI to the hard drive. Unloading a
file can be accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. This will
change the loaded symbol from "X" to a "-".
1.2.3 Select
This button will only be available when parts are selected from the Auto Mode feature seen in 2.2 and the Auto
Mode button on the MCP. Selecting file can be accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your
mouse and hitting this button. It is used to actually load and select the part to be run next in the machine.
1.2.4 Edit
This button can be used to open up a part in the editor to make any changes. Editing a file can be accomplished
by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. Any changes made to a file must be
saved in the editor in order for the file to retain the changes. If a file is loaded on the NC, hitting the normal save
button on the editor will save the changes and reload the file back onto the NC.If a file has been selected to run,
then hitting the save button will load the file back onto the NC but also reselect the file to run next on the
machine.
1.2.5 Copy
This button is used to copy files from one location to another. Coping file or files can be accomplished by first
hitting this button and then selecting the files you wished copied by highlighting the part File Name or Names
using your mouse. Once you have selected all your files you must then select a destination from one of the
vertical buttons. Once the destination has been selected, the retrieval location vertical button will be a light
green color and the destination location vertical button will become a red color. Once the copying has been
complete the destination vertical button will once again become its normal grey color.
1.2.6 Delete
This button is used to delete a file from a particular location. Deleting file or files can be accomplished by first
hitting this button and then selecting the files you wished copied by highlighting the part File Name or Names
using your mouse. Once the file or files have been selected hitting the Delete button once more will change the
button color from red back to its normal grey color but also in turn delete the selected files at the current
location.
1.2.12 System
Access to files anywhere on the hard drive, floppy, or network can be accessed using this button. Note: This is
only accessible to those with high enough security access.
1.3 Miscellaneous
This will be the location for any miscellaneous items or information that needs to be set for use with other parts
of the HMI.
1.4 Language
By pulling down the list from the combobox, you can select what language the HMI will display. The current
language selections at the present time are English and German.
1.5 Exit
Exit will close down the HMI as well as shut down the system. Note: If a part program is currently loaded in
the NC it will first unload the part program before attempting to shut down the system.
Axis Display will display all available axis along with its distance to go (DTG) or lag (following error) in either
inch decimal or metric depending on what the Siemens 840DI is setup to display.
Pressing this button will switch between distance to go (DTG) and Lag (following error) of the axis.
2.1.2 IN or MM
In the upper right corner of the Axis Display dialog, there will appear either IN for inch decimal or MM
for millimeters indicating the mode the axis are currently counting in.
The Auto Mode dialog will appear and be available only when the machine control panel (MCP) is set to Auto.
Otherwise it is unavailable or if it was opened and the MCP is set out of Auto then the Auto Mode dialog
becomes disabled. This dialog can also be maximized to full screen in order to see most of the commands from
a part program.
2.2.1 Select
Select will launch the File Manager where only the Part Program section and the Select button on the File
Manager will be available. Files loaded or files still on the hard drive can be selected to run. Once the file has
been selected it will load the file, File Manager will close, and the Auto Mode screen will become populated with
the machine commands that will be used to create the selected part.
2.2.2 Deselect
Deselect will deselect a part program from the NC and unpopulate the machine commands from the Auto Mode
dialog.
2.2.3 BlockSearch
Block Search is only available if a part program is loaded in the Auto Mode screen. Its function is to start a
program where it left off after a serious error or shut down of the system. First you must remember the block the
part program was on in order to start at the same location when you begin Block Search. Press the Block Search
button and then highlight the block using the mouse cursor. Once this is done you would press the Calculate
Block End Point described in 2.2.4.
Once block search has been issued and the starting block in the part program has been highlighted press calculate
block end point. Once this has been done Cycle Start must be pressed and then the operator must wait for the
message "Channel 1 continue program with NC start" . After the message occurs pressing the Cycle Start button
again is needed to begin the part program at the highlighted position.
2.2.5 Exit
Exit is another convenient way of closing the Auto Mode dialog. If a part program is loaded in Auto Mode it
will be unloaded before closing the Auto Mode dialog.
MDA mode is used for operators who want to simply enter a few commands to run without having to create an
entire part program. Placing the mouse cursor and clicking on the dialog will give the operator a text cursor
where the operator is free to enter commands that can be ran on the NC of the machine. Once all the commands
have been entered hitting the Cycle Start button will execute the commands on the MDA dialog.
3 Tools
All alarms and messages will be scrolled at the top of the HMI as well as shown in this dialog. Here you will be
able to see the alarm #, date and time, as well as the alarm message itself. Here you will also be able to launch a
PDF file on the alarm message if the alarm is a Siemens alarm.
3.1.1 Alarm#
All posted alarms and messages will have a number attached to them. These numbers will be displayed in the
Alarm# column shown on this dialog.
3.1.2 Date&Time
The date and time the alarm or message occurred will be displayed in the Date&Time column next to the
Alarm#.
3.1.3 AlarmMessage
A description of the Alarm# will be displayed here in the Alarm Message column next to the Date&Time
column.
3.1.4 Help
Help can be used on any Siemens alarm or messages. Peddinghaus messages will not have any PDF information
available. Simply highlight the alarm# your interested in obtaining information on and then press the Help
button will launch a PDF file taking you right to the alarm in question. If no PDF exists for a particular alarm or
message a popup dialog will appear stating "No Help PDF for this Message!".
3.2.1 Category
A pull down listing of all parameter sections for the machine will exist here. Selection of one of these categories
will bring up the parameters involved with a particular operation of the machine.
Once a category has been selected, a number of parameters will appear with the parameter name, a value, and a
particular action required only for certain parameters after a parameter has been changed. The Value column
will be editable for most of the parameters but not all. Note: Access to specific data in the Value column is
controlled by password protected access levels. Some parameters will be read only while others might be only
changeable under Manufacturing or Supervisor access levels. Parameters with the action "PO" will require a
NCK Reset.
3.3 Monitor
Monitor screens are used for monitoring necessary items within the PLC and NC that may be important to the
customer.
This dialog is a quick and easy access to Data Block information, Inputs, Outputs, or R variables. The
components entered here will remain here for as long the HMI is running. Only 5 values can be displayed at any
given time.
3.4.1 Operand
Entered components under this column will display there values in the Value column. Only components such as
Inputs (i.e. I55), Outputs (i.e. Q55), data block information (i.e. db121.dbx12), or R variables (i.e. R10) will be
able to work here.
3.4.2 Value
The value of the component entered in the first column under Operand.
3.5 Convert
Pressing Convert will above "Convert" dialog box appear. Here you will be able to convert mm to inches or vice
versa and some simple math functions.
3.5.1 Inches
Pressing this button will convert what ever is displayed in the box to inches.
3.5.2 Millimeters
Pressing this button will convert what ever is displayed in the box to millimeters.
This is the dialog that deals directly to the access level for the machine. There are three main password protected
access levels in the Siemens 840Di control. They are from low to high: User, Service & Manufacturer. Certain
screens and functions are hidden from lower access levels. In reality, there are four additional access levels all
lower than "User" that are determined by the keyswitch on the machine control panel. Peddinghaus has chosen
not use these access levels. Anyone operating the machine should be at access level "User" as a minimum. The
Siemens access level / password concept and the softkey labels can be confusing and it is important for anyone
with an access level higher than "User" to understand the concepts and labeling.
The Siemens 840Di control does NOT require a password be entered when the control is re-started. If the
control's access level is "Service" when the control is shut-down or rebooted it will restart in access level "User".
The person that raises the access level is responsible for lowering the access level back to "User" when they are
finished with their tasks or simply power down and reboot.
The standard passwords are set by Siemens and Peddinghaus does not change them. For this reason Peddinghaus
HIGHLY recommends keeping the verbally supplied password for access level "Service" unchanged and strictly
confidential. As a rule, Peddinghaus maintains the password for "Manufacturer" access level as private.
3.7.2 Password
This is a text box in which you enter in the password to change to a certain access level.
3.9 Setup
This too is a Siemens application that needs a Service or Manufacture access level in order to obtain access.
Once this is pressed the actual HMI will be shut down and launch this application called SinuCom NC. Once
SinuCom NC is closed it will place the control back to the Windows XP desktop. Entering into the HMI once
again must be done by running the shortcut on the desktop in order to launch the HMI.
3.10 Step7
This too is a Siemens application that needs a Service or Manufacture access level in order to obtain access.
This application is used in order to maintain and monitor the PLC logic.
3.11 Peddimat
This is a Peddinghaus application used to create part programs to run on Peddinghaus' machines.
