1 File

Under the pull down File there are 5 selectable features.

Note: As seen in the software, once a feature is selected from any of the pull downs it will create a check mark
next to the feature just selected and remain open as long as the feature remains open in the software. Once the
feature is closed the check mark will be removed. A function can also be closed by simply selecting the feature
on the pull down that has a check mark. This in turn will remove the check mark and also close the feature.

1.1 Editor

Much like a normal text editor this editor only works with files with extensions mpf, spf, cbt, csv, ped, oldped,
###. Used mainly for editing part programs this editor does some of the basic functions as normal editors. For
instance, Create New files, Open and Save files, Cut, Paste, and Copy text, undo, and redo. This editor will also
be available from the File Manager seen in section 1.2. Also available but only at a secure level of access will be
the ability to copy and delete files of these extensions seen within opening and saving a file.

File 2

1.2 File Manager

This feature will be used to handle most of the file interaction between the hard drive and the NC of the Siemens
840DI. The horizontal buttons will be used for dealing with the files. The vertical buttons will be for storage
location of files such as part programs, user cycles, archive files, etc. Most of these buttons are available to the
operator. Others are only available to those with high enough security access.

1.2.1 Load
This button is used to load a part program within the NC of the Siemens 840DI. Loading a file can be
accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. A loaded file will be
distinguished with a "X" symbol under the column labeled Loaded. If a file is not loaded it will be distinguished
by a symbol "-". If the symbol "!X!" appears, then this means the name of the file has been located both on the
hard drive and the NC. In this case, using the delete button to get rid of the one off the NC is in order to be able
reload the one from the hard drive.

1.2.2 Unload
This button is used to unload a part program from the NC of the Siemens 840DI to the hard drive. Unloading a
file can be accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. This will
change the loaded symbol from "X" to a "-".

1.2.3 Select
This button will only be available when parts are selected from the Auto Mode feature seen in 2.2 and the Auto
Mode button on the MCP. Selecting file can be accomplished by highlighting the part File Name using your
mouse and hitting this button. It is used to actually load and select the part to be run next in the machine.

1.2.4 Edit
This button can be used to open up a part in the editor to make any changes. Editing a file can be accomplished
by highlighting the part File Name using your mouse and hitting this button. Any changes made to a file must be
saved in the editor in order for the file to retain the changes. If a file is loaded on the NC, hitting the normal save
button on the editor will save the changes and reload the file back onto the NC.If a file has been selected to run,
then hitting the save button will load the file back onto the NC but also reselect the file to run next on the
machine.

1.2.5 Copy
This button is used to copy files from one location to another. Coping file or files can be accomplished by first
hitting this button and then selecting the files you wished copied by highlighting the part File Name or Names
using your mouse. Once you have selected all your files you must then select a destination from one of the
vertical buttons. Once the destination has been selected, the retrieval location vertical button will be a light
green color and the destination location vertical button will become a red color. Once the copying has been
complete the destination vertical button will once again become its normal grey color.

1.2.6 Delete
This button is used to delete a file from a particular location. Deleting file or files can be accomplished by first
hitting this button and then selecting the files you wished copied by highlighting the part File Name or Names
using your mouse. Once the file or files have been selected hitting the Delete button once more will change the
button color from red back to its normal grey color but also in turn delete the selected files at the current

Tools 12

3.6 Command Buttons

Command buttons are for a convenience for the customer.

3.6.1 Load from File

Hit the Load from File button to load any command button file. Once the button has been pressed you will be
able to select the specific command button file you want. Only those files with an extension ".cbt" will appear.
You can copy or delete any old command button files by doing a right mouse click on the specific file in question
and press the desired option. This is only available for those with access Service level and higher.

3.7 Access Level

This is the dialog that deals directly to the access level for the machine. There are three main password protected
access levels in the Siemens 840Di control. They are from low to high: User, Service & Manufacturer. Certain
screens and functions are hidden from lower access levels. In reality, there are four additional access levels all
lower than "User" that are determined by the keyswitch on the machine control panel. Peddinghaus has chosen
not use these access levels. Anyone operating the machine should be at access level "User" as a minimum. The
Siemens access level / password concept and the softkey labels can be confusing and it is important for anyone
with an access level higher than "User" to understand the concepts and labeling.

The Siemens 840Di control does NOT require a password be entered when the control is re-started. If the
control's access level is "Service" when the control is shut-down or rebooted it will restart in access level "User".
The person that raises the access level is responsible for lowering the access level back to "User" when they are
finished with their tasks or simply power down and reboot.

The standard passwords are set by Siemens and Peddinghaus does not change them. For this reason Peddinghaus
HIGHLY recommends keeping the verbally supplied password for access level "Service" unchanged and strictly
confidential. As a rule, Peddinghaus maintains the password for "Manufacturer" access level as private.

© 2006 ... Peddinghaus Corporation

13 Peddinghaus HMI Help

Default password for access level "User" is CUSTOMER.

3.7.1 Current Access Level

This will give the operator an indication of the current access level of the machine. Manufacture level is for
OEM status, Service level is for a service guy/supervisor status, and User level is for a operator status.

3.7.2 Password
This is a text box in which you enter in the password to change to a certain access level.

3.7.3 Delete Password

It is NOT possible to directly lower the access level by simply entering the appropriate password. Instead the
current password needs to be deleted by checking this check box and hitting OK. Access level is now reduced to
the "keyswitch" level and needs to be raised for machine operation or simply power down and reboot.

3.8 NC/PLC Diagnosis

Service or Manufacture access level is needed to use the NC/PLC Diagnosis area. This dialog popup is an actual
application by Siemens that tells of the status of the NC and PLC. Within this application the supervisor may
look at the status of the NC and PLC as well as other very important items pertaining to the control. Note:
Peddinghaus highly recommends that one of our technicians be involved when accessing this dialog for
maintaining the integrity of the machine.

3.9 Setup
This too is a Siemens application that needs a Service or Manufacture access level in order to obtain access.
Once this is pressed the actual HMI will be shut down and launch this application called SinuCom NC. Once
SinuCom NC is closed it will place the control back to the Windows XP desktop. Entering into the HMI once
again must be done by running the shortcut on the desktop in order to launch the HMI.

3.10 Step7
This too is a Siemens application that needs a Service or Manufacture access level in order to obtain access.
This application is used in order to maintain and monitor the PLC logic.

3.11 Peddimat
This is a Peddinghaus application used to create part programs to run on Peddinghaus' machines.

3.12 Update Peddimat

This is used to update the Windows Peddimat software. Access level Service or Manufacture is needed to obtain
access as well as a floppy in the floppy drive.
