Machine Translation

Microsoft Translator is a multilingual statistical machine translation service in the

cloud provided by Microsoft.
The Microsoft Translator API which is Application Programming Interfere integrates
across multiple consumer, developer, and enterprise products, including Bing,
Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Microsoft Lync, Skype Translator, Visual Studio,
Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Translator apps for Windows, iPhone, Apple
Watch, Android, Android Wear and Amazon Store.
The app was compatible with Windows 10 Mobile until early April 2019.

The first version of Microsoft's machine translation system was developed between
1999 and 2000 within Microsoft Research. This system was based on predicate-
argument semantic structures known as logical forms (LF), and was based on the
grammar correction application developed for Microsoft Word.

This system was eventually used to translate the entire Microsoft Knowledge Base
into Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.

Microsoft's approach to machine translation, like most modern machine translation

systems today, is "data-driven" —rather than relying on writing explicit rules to
translate natural language texts, algorithms are trained to understand and interpret
translated parallel texts, allowing you to automatically learn how to translate new
text into natural language.

The consumer-focused translation website known as Bing Translator (formerly

known as Windows Live Translator) was launched in 2007 and provides free text
and website translations.

Text is translated directly on the Bing Translator page, while websites are
translated through the Bilingual Viewer tools.
In 2011, the service was expanded to include numerous Microsoft Translator
products through an API, localized in the cloud, that is compatible with the products
available to both customers and user companies.

An additional voice translation service was introduced in March 2016.

Bing Translator
Bing Translator (formerly Live Search Translator and Windows Live Translator) is a
user-driven translation portal provided by Microsoft as part of Bing services to
translate texts or entire web pages into different languages.

All translation pairs are powered by Microsoft Translator. Two transliteration pairs
(between Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional)) are provided by the
international Microsoft Windows team.

As of April 2022, Bing Translator offers translations in 103 languages and language
variants. Bing Translator can translate user-entered phrases or acquire a link to a
web page and translate it in its entirety.
When translating an entire web page, or when the user selects "Translate this
page" in Bing search results, the bilingual viewer is displayed, allowing users to
examine the original web page text and translate in parallel, supported by
synchronized underlining, scrolling and navigation.

Characteristic
Bing,  known as Microsoft Translator
It is a cloud-based neural engine, Microsoft Translator is closely integrated with MS
Office and other Microsoft products, providing instant access to translation abilities
within a document or other software.

The Bing Translator contains numerous extra functions in addition to normal text
and web page translation: When translating a whole web page, or when a user
clicks "translate this page" in the Bing search results, the Bilingual Viewer appears,
allowing users to view the content of the original web page and translation in
simultaneously, with synchronized highlighting, scrolling, and navigating.
