Sim Typhoon

The document discusses why the Philippines is prone to typhoons. It explains that typhoons develop over warm ocean waters, usually above 26.5°C. The Philippines is located near the equator where the climate is warm, and it is surrounded by oceans where water temperatures rise and evaporate, forming typhoons. The country's geographic position means it frequently experiences typhoons as the storms pass through the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

TOPIC: Why Philippines is prone

TITLE CARD
to typhoons?

Content Standard:
Learners should be able to explain the formation of typhoons and their movement
within the PAR.
Learning Competency:
Learners should be able to infer why Philippines is prone to typhoons. (S8ES-IId-19)

Learning Objectives:
Learners should be able to explain how typhoons develop and why Philippines is
prone to typhoons.

GUIDE CARD

Is rainy season
already here? It’s
I wonder why our country is been raining for two
always visited by typhoons, I days.
can't go outside to play.

Let’s listen to the news if

there are any typhoons in
the Philippine Area of
Responsibility.
TEACHER’S GUIDE
1. distribute a copy of sim to each learner
2. Explain the content standard, learning competency and objectives in the title card

3. Let them read the comics strip and learner’s guide in the guide card

4. Give instructions and guidelines for the activities in the activity card and let them enjoy
while learning.
5. Assess if the learner is learning in the assessment card
6. In the enrichment activity, let them use other resources like, books, internet etc.

7. Re-do if the learner’s score is below or at least 50% of the total score

LEARNER’S GUIDE

Tropical Cyclones - is a rapid rotating storm originating over tropical oceans

from where it draws the energy to develop. it requires warm ocean waters usually 26.5°C to
be able to develop.
Every year the Philippines is hit by typhoons, all provinces have been visited by
typhoon at one time or another it is because our country is situated near the equator and
being surrounded by oceans where water becomes warmer and warmer and later
evaporates and form tropical cyclone.
ACTIVITY CARD Can you help me investigate why
Philippines is prone to typhoons?

I only remember my teacher told us that

typhoons usually develop over warm
seas.

ACTIVITY 1: INVESTIGATING PHILIPPINES

Look closer to the picture in your left, where Philippines is located?

a. near the north pole c. near the Atlantic

Is Philippine surrounded by ocean waters?

a. Yes c. No
b. Maybe d. I don't know
What are the only two seasons in the Philippines?
a. Winter and Rainy c. Spring and Rainy
b. Winter and autumn d. Sunny and Rainy
How typhoons are being formed?
a. it needs cold air and water to formed itself
b. It needs a lot of water, strong winds and clouds to be able to form itself
c. It needs warm ocean water which later evaporates and create low pressure and then later a typhoon

What is the reason why Philippines is prone to typhoons?

a. Because Philippines is near the north pole and surrounded by oceans
b. Because Philippines is geographically located along pacific region near the equator and where climate is
usually warm.
c. Because Philippines is near the equator and surrounded by mountains.

ACTIVITY 2: 4 PICS-1 WORD

Can you help me guess what is

on the pictures?
Help me recall how these strong
typhoons were formed as they
approach in our country. Describe
ASSESSMENT CARD what is on the picture.
