PERUBAHAN TENSES DALAM INDIRECT SPEECH.

1- Study the following statements then complete the chart below:


A. He said: "I am happy".( SIMPLE PRESENT}  He said that he was happy.( SIMPLE PAST)

The verbs could, should, would, might, must, needn't, ought to, used to do not normally change.

 The reporting verb is ask ----> asked.


 The tense changes are the same as for reported statements.
 Pronouns and time / place expressions change the same way as for reported statements.
 The subject comes before the verb.
 We use if when we report yes or no questions.
