Amelia: I‘m alright, thanks. I’m quite happy in my new school.
Friend: Yeah? Great! How is it?
Amelia: Well, it’s quite big. There’s even a swimming pool!
Friend: Cool!
Amelia: Yes, it’s pretty cool. But what I hate is the uniform.
Friend: Do you wear a uniform?
Amelia: Yes, every day. I’m sick of it!
Friend: What colour is it?
Amelia: Dark blue and white, like the colours of the school.

sure you’re settling in.
Amelia: Ok!
School advisor: So tell me, you’re in secondary school now aren’t you?
Amelia: Yes, I’ve just started year 8.
School advisor: Ok, year 8. So that means you’re twelve, thirteen years old?
Amelia: Yeah, I’m twelve.
School advisor: Ok, great. So how are you finding year 8? Is it a big jump moving up from primary to
secondary school?

Amelia: Well, it is quite different from primary school and sometimes I find it a bit stressful.
But it‘s ok.
School advisor: Good, good. So tell me, which subjects are you studying this year?

Amelia: I do art, maths, science, English, geography, history and French. Oh, and RE.
School advisor: Excellent, excellent. And what’s your favourite subject at the moment?
Amelia: I like science the best.
School advisor: Ah, great. Why is it your favourite?
Amelia: Well, I ´really like doing experiments and Mr Cogswell is great.
School advisor: That’s great to hear. I like Mr Cogswell a lot aswell! He’s very kind.
Amelia: Yeah and he’s funny, I really enjoy his classes.
School advisor: Great, that’s great. Ok and now, which is your least favourite subject?
Amelia: Well, I don’t know really…
School advisor: Come on now, you must have a least favourite. It’s ok, I’m not testing you. I just
want to know if we can help you with anything.
Amelia: Well, I don’t really like art. I can’t draw very well.
School advisor: Art eh…Well don’t worry, you will soon learn more techniques other than drawing,
like sculptur, photography and video.
Amelia: Yes, I guess.
School advisor: Any do you get on well with your classmates? Is there any friction there at all?
Amelia: No, the people are quite nice. I’m still settling in, I guess, but there’s a nice group

School advisor: Good, I’m pleased. And what about extra curricular activities? Do you want help

School advisor: Ok, no problem. What about sport?
Amelia: Yeah, I like sports.
School advisor: Well, we have quite a strong girls‘ football team here.
Amelia: Mmm I don’t like football that much.
School advisor: Ok, you can also do badminton, rock climbing, swimming or hockey.
Amelia: Oh, is there a hockey team? Great! I love hockey.
School advisor: That’s wonderful. We have a mixed hockey team.
Amelia: Ok, that sounds good.
School advisor: Very good! I am sure you will really enjoy playing with them.
Amelia: Yeah!
School advisor: Ok then. Is there anything else you want to mention today?
Amelia: No thank you.
School advisor: Ok, well please don’t hesitate to drop by if there’s anything I can help you with. My

Man: So, Abby, where do you go to school?
Abby: I go to a boarding school in the north of England.
Man: A boarding school? What’s a boarding school? Can you explain?
Abby: Oh…When you go to a boarding school it means that you live at the school all the time. You eat
at school, you sleep at school, we even have a bedtime.
Man: And when is that?
Abby: Well, for example, if you’re in year 8, like me, you must go to bed at 9pm and you must get up
at 7 in the morning.
Man: So you don’t see your family often, do you?
Abby: No, I only see my family in the holidays.
Man: Oh, I see. Is that a problem for you?

Abby: No, not really because I have a lot of friends at school and we organise trips every weekend so
we can go shopping or do something fun like a game of paintball. But we mustn’t leave school
without permission, even if we don’t have class.
Man: I see. And what are other rules in your boarding school?
Abby: Well, we must study every day after class in the library, but I like that because it forces me to
do my homework. And we must keep our bedrooms clean and tidy. Also, we must go to church
every evening at 5 o’clock. But I don’t like that so much.
Man: That’s a lot of rules!
Abby: Oh yes! But I don’t mind really. The teachers are so nice and the atmosphere is pretty friendly.
So I guess it suits me well.
Man: Alright. Thanks for telling us Abby!
Abby: You’re welcome.

Amelia: Hi Nelson. Can you help me with one of my nnn?
Nelson: Sure, what is it?
Amelia: I’d like to ask you some questions about food in America for a presentation I’m giving at
school. Is that ok?
Nelson: Yeah, go ahead. What do you wanna know?
Amelia: Well, I’d like to know more about American food habits. For starters, what do you have for
breakfast and what time do you have it?
Nelson: Let’s see…On school days I usually have cereal with milk and some strawberries for breakfast,
because it’s quick. I have it quite early, usually at half past seven. But on weekends, I
sometimes have pancakes with eggs and bacon.
Amelia: Nice! In the Uk we usually have cereal with milk aswell. And sometimes, on weekends mostly,
we have a traditional cooked breakfast of ham, sausages, eggs, baked beans and toast.
Nelson: Mmm, yummy yummy! I love eggs and sausages.
Amelia: It’s great but not very healthy.
Nelson: Yeah, but still delicious.
Amelia: Yeah (giggles). Ok, where was I? Oh yeah, what about your lunch?
Nelson: Well, at school I have lunch at 11 o’clock and I often take lunch with me because there’s no
cafeteria. Only vending machines. But my dad makes fantastic packed lunches. My favourite
is chicken wraps with spinach and fresh avocado, of course.
Amelia: Wow! That sounds healthy.
Nelson: (Laughs) I guess. And my dad never forgets to put in some fruit, like a pear or some grapes.
What about you?
Amelia: Hmm…We have lunch a little later than you, at 12 o’clock. We have a cantine at school but
I also prefer to bring a packed lunch from home. Often, a cheese and ham sandwich, crisps

and an apple.
Nelson: Crisps are chips, aren’t they?
Amelia: Yes, in England we call them crisps. I love the cheese and onion flavoured ones. What do you
have as a snack?
Nelson: Mmmm…I often have a snack in the afternoon at around half past three. When I arrive home
I usually have a peanut butter sandwich. Do you like peanut butter?
Amelia: I do, but it isn’t so popular in the UK, so I hardly ever have it. But I sometimes have a bar of
chocolate before the end of school, at around half past two.
Nelson: Chocolate is good too. Do you need more info?
Amelia: Yeah, we’re almost done. But can you tell me about your dinner?
Nelson: Sure. I have dinner at around 7 o’clock in the evening. My parents usually make something
like pasta or burgers with lettuce, tomato and French fries. Sometimes we order takeout. My
favourite is spicy Tex Mex food which is really popular in LA.
Amelia: Tasty! I also love spicy food. Sometimes we go out for dinner at a curry house. Curry is very
popular in the UK. But at home, my favourite meal is roast chicken with mashed potatoes and
peas.
Nelson: Tasty! We should share videos with the specialities of our countries.
Amelia: Yeah, that would be fun. Well, thanks a lot for helping me with my presentation.
Nelson: No problem, Amelia. Talk to you later!

Nelson: Oh don’t worry, that’s alright. So, what are you doing?
Daniel: I’m at home, I’m back from my photography class. Awesome session today. We tried to take

Nelson: Great! Hey, I really want to see your pictures.
Daniel: Sure, I can send you some of them but at the moment they’re not finished.
Nelson: Alright. Well, I’ve got to go now. Sorry about Mindcraft but, hey, call Zoe, maybe she can play.

Daniel: Hi everybody and welcome to Radio G, the school radio at St. George’s School. My name is
Daniel and I’m your host today. This programme was set up by the class of grade 7 with our teacher,
Mr Berron. Today, we’re gonna talk about some creative groups and clubs. So first of all, let’s listen
to a few commercials from some clubs here in Vancouver. Then, we’ll have a debate to see what are
your favourite activities in terms of art and creativity. So, listen up, here’s the first commercial.
Come to our school, where you can learn many things from acting to animation to game design. We
are known all over the world and we welcome students from other countries. You can go to class from
Monday to Friday, you need to be at least nineteen years old and interested in cinema, animation or
design. Of course, you need to be creative, imaginative and hard-working too. Interested? Then spend
a year studying with us. You can find us on the social networks and fill out a form on our website. If
you have any problems, don’t worry – we are here to help! So go to vfs.edu and take the first step.
We’re waiting for you here in the Hollywood of the north!
Daniel: Alright, so here’s another commercial!
We are a school for children ages from two to sixteen that offers a variety of music, theatre and
movement classes. We offer classes that develop confidence and also teach a number of technical
disciplines. You can learn to dance, to sing, to act and all in a creative, warm and fun environment.
We welcome young talent who are open-minded and enthusiastic. Some children are good singers,
others are not so good, some are athletic, some are not. But that’s not a problem at all because we
develop all sorts of talent here at the Vancouver Performing Stars. You can take our classes once or
even twice a week, after school or on Saturdays. So give us a call, come and see us or check us out
online at performingstars.ca. We’ll be very happy to perform with you!
Daniel: Let’s have a debate! Are you interested in art? Are you creative? Are you interested in any of
the schools or clubs? Let’s talk about it, right after this…

Person 2: Oh yeah, I watched it in the cinema when it was released. I watched it with my big brother.
And it’s about a kid who has problems with his big brother. So, that was pretty funny.
Person 1: Yeah, it was. Some things were hilarious! I love comedies like that. About school. The
characters were just so silly.

2.
Person 1: Hey! Wanna come over this weekend? We’re doing a movie marathon.
Person 2: Cool, what movies are we watching?
Person 1: Try to guess, I‘ll give you a hint…it’s a great saga with amazing special effects and action
scenes.
Person 2: Hmm…I’m not sure. Can you give me another hint?
Person 1: The main characters are really good and, even if some of the movies are just decent, they
are never boring.
Person 2: Indiana Jones?
Person 1: Ok. One last hint. Lightsabers.
Person 2: Oh, got it!
Person 1: So, are you coming?
Person 2: Absolutely!
3.
Person 1: So, did you do movie night last Friday?
Person 2: Yes, we did. But do you know what my sister did? She insisted on watching this romance
movie. And my parents agreed. It was so boring. I hated it. I wanted to watch an action
movie but no, we watched a movie about two teenagers.
Person 1: Wait a minute, is it the movie with two kids who are sick? I liked it, I thought it was
enjoyable.
Person 2: Well, it wasn’t for me. I like martial arts movies and sci-fi movies, not romance.
Person 1: Ok, but didn’t you find the story interesting?
Person 2: No I didn’t, no way! Annoying, yes. Interesting, not at all. Next Friday, I‘m picking the
movie and I’ll choose Star Wars.

Oliver: Mardi Gras, what’s that? Is it a music festival?
Zoe: Well, there’s music all around the city but it’s like a carnival, don’t you celebrate it?
Oliver: Yeah, we have carneval but we don’t call it Mardi Gras. That sounds so French!
Zoe: Because it is French. In New Orleans we have many streets with french names.
Oliver: Cool! So, are you dressing up? Send me pictures.

Ashley: But we can’t, it’s Steve’s big day!

Mum: Alright, alright. Then why don’t we visit grandma on Sunday? I’m calling her to change our

American Independence Day falls on the 4th of July. It commemorates the signing of the Declaration
of Independence on July 4th 1776, so you could say it’s like when the USA was born. Americans like
to party in many ways on this holiday but people mostly celebrate by going to picnics and barbecues.
People like to dress in red, white and blue, the colours of the American flag, so it’s a real American
holiday. On the 4th of July, Americans also celebrate with fireworks and parades. During the daytime,

7 seven Bloggers 2

Bloggers2_Audioscript.indd 8 7/8/2020 10:10:53

Student’s Book

people take to the streets to see parades marching through the city. Then, when it gets dark, the
crowds are amazed by the incredible firework displays, which light up the night sky. Some families like
to set off small fireworks in their gardens but most people prefer to enjoy the professional firework
displays that take place in public parks or along the cost. Big cities, like New York City and Washington
D.C. are famous for their firework displays, which can be seen on the TV.
Another popular holiday in the United States is Thanksgiving, which also marks the start of the holiday
season, which includes Christmas, Hannuka, Kwanzaa and the Winter Solstice, so it’s the start of the
busiest season of the year, especially for shops in the U.S.. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th
Thursday of November. Thanksgiving is a great holiday, if you like your food. It is all about having a
feast with friends and family. Turkey is the traditional main course. The Thanksgiving meal of today
originates from the meal that the pilgrims from Europe shared with the Native Americans on the very
first Thanksgiving. On that occasion turkey, duck, goose, squash, corn and many other foods were
shared and this original celebration supposedly lasted for days. Another Thanksgiving tradition in
the United States is American football. Watching the football game while preparing the Thanksgiving
meal is a big part of the celebration for many families. However, there are plenty of other things to do
for families, if they’re not into sports.
Halloween has become the second most popular holiday in the country over the years. Halloween is
known for its gothic origins and more importantly, its scary costumes, elaborate parties and events
and horror film festivals. This holiday has not been celebrated for as long as other festivals and it only
became popular in the early 20th century. These days, American families look forward to Halloween
immensly and families come together to celebrate by carving pumpkins into scary Jack O’Lanterns,
decorating their houses to look as scary as possible and by wearing elaborate costumes. Of course,
the most popular part for the children is going trick-or-treating around their neighbourhood.

Person 2: My name is Evan.
Person 1: So, what does 4th of July mean to you?
Person 2: Well, erm, to me 4th of July is celebrating my country, the United States, celebrating the
birth of it and why it’s there.
Person 1: Do you know what is commemorated on this day?
Person 2: Of course! We celebrate the fourth of July to remember the reading oft he Declaration of
Independence, which was the first act in declaring independence from Great Britain.
Person 1: Great, thank you!
Person 2: Thank you!
2.
Person 1: Hello, can I ask you some questions? First, what’s your name?

Person 1: So, what does 4th of July mean to you?
Person 2: 4th of July for me is, erm. Actually, funny enough, it’s actually my sister’s birthday and the
birthday of the United States and, erm, every year we would have a barbecue outside in
the garden on the 4th of July, and there would be these huge fireworks up in the sky which
my parents would always tell my sister that it was for her.
Person 1: Do you know why the 4th of July is celebrated?
Person 2: Because they became independent.
Person 1: Which country did the U.S. gain independence from?
Person 2: From…the...of course…from the UK?

transfiguration, charms, potions, history of magic, astronomy and herbology. And, they also learn
how to fly on broomsticks and how to use magic wands.

Miss Collins: Hi, this is Mirs Collins, calling from France.
Travel agent consultant: Oh, hi, Mirs Collins, thanks for calling. Your schedule is ready, let me just
get it.
Miss Collins: Sure.
Travel agent consultant: Okay, here it is. Let’s check your travel dates. So, you were staying in
Louisiana from June 1st until June 15th, right?
Miss Collins: Yes, that’s right. What time does the flight leave?
Travel agent consultant: The plane leaves from Marseille at 11am. The flight is going to be around
15 hours long, so you are going to arrive in New Orleans at 7pm, local time.
Miss Collins: I see. So, 15 hours flying and we arrive at 7pm. What is that, seven hours
difference?
Travel agent consultant: That’s right, France is seven hours ahead of New Orleans. At 7pm in
New Orleans it’s 2am in France. It‘s a long flight, so you should tell your
students to bring books, music or games with them.
Miss Collins: Right, good idea.
Travel agent consultant: Okay, and then let’s go through your activities program. In New Orleans
you are going to visit the world famous french quater, including Jackson
Square. A beautiful park that was designed after Place de Vosges in Paris.
You should get around by foot but you totally must take a street car.
Miss Collins: Sure, it’s on our must-do list. Okay, and when are we going to Baton Rouge?
Travel agent consultant: On June 3rd. You’re going to take a bus to Baton Rouge. There’s a lot see
there as well. The two capitals, thee old and the new one, and there’s a
French Quarter there too.
Miss Collins: Okay, great, thanks you. And are we visiting a plantation?
Travel agent consultant: Yes, you are going from Baton Rouge to Monroe in the north of Louisiana
by bus. Near there, you’re going to take a boat tour on the Mississippi
River and visit a fantastic plantation by the river.
Miss Collins: Oh, that sounds terrific.
Travel agent consultant: Yes, it is very special. And then, from Monroe, you’re going to Shreveport,
where you’re going to visit Gators and Friends, a great park to discover
wild life and exotic animals. You can even hold a small alligator for free.
Miss Collins: Great! And what about the return trip? What time is the flight?
Travel agent consultant: You leave from New Orleans on June 15th at 1am and you arrive in Marseille
at around 11pm, local time.

A pet is usually a small domestic animal, like a cat, a dog or a hamster. You can enjoy its company and
take care of it. But some people prefer exotic pets like snakes, spiders or other dangerous animals,
like alligators. In Louisiana, you can actually buy pet alligators in shops, but you should know that
they are going to grow very big. They are going to need a lot of space and a lot of meat. Alligators are
wild animals, they should live in fresh water lakes, rivers or swamps. Alligators are awesome animals
to see in the wild in the bio, but they just don’t make good pets. So remember, people should’t take
exotic animals out of their natural habitat. Shops shouldn’t sell exotic animals either. Alligators just
aren’t pets. So, don’t buy exotic animals and respect wildlife.

I like Mr Cogswell a lot as well!
I’m still settling in, I guess, but there’s a nice group
who I eat my lunch with and spend the breaktime with. So, I’m getting to know them.
School advisor: Good, I’m pleased. And what about extra curricular activities? Do you want help

Hi, Everyone! I’m Noah. I’m 13 years old and I live in Liverpool. I’m in year 8 at the moment, so I go to
secondary school. In the morning, I take the bus at around seven, as my classes start at 8. It’s early
but it’s okay and I really like my school. There are many modern and great facilities, such as a cantine,
a football pitch and a huge playground. There are also two IT rooms and a theatre. We must wear
uniform, which is quite cool. It’s made of a black dress and a white polo for girls and black trousers
and white polo for boys. There are some rules at my school. For example, we must always be on time
for our lessons. We must never talk when the teacher is talking. We must not run in class and we can’t
eat in the classroom. We have our lunch in our school cantine and even if there are tables outside, we
can’t eat there. Everyday, I have classes from 8 to 1 in the afternoon. And then I have extracurricular
activities. It’s great because we can choose from a lot of different activities, like football, badminton,
swimming, cooking, acting, chess, photography or gardening.

Amelia: Hi Nelson. Can you help me with one of my homework assignments?
But at home, my favourite meal is roast chicken with mashed potatoes and
peas.

Hi, this is Nelson, from American Traditional Recipes.Today, I have a very classical American recipe
for you. Corn-on-the-cob is one of my favorite sides and I’ll show you a really easy and delicious way
of cooking it. First, the ingredients. You need six or eight ears of corn, six cups of water, one cup of
milk and half a cup of salty butter. If you don’t have salty butter, don’t worry, you just need an extra
half tablespoon of salt and that’s it. Really simple. Let’s start: Pour the water into a large pot and
bring the water to boil. Add milk and butter. Add the corn and reduce the heat. Boil the corn slowly
for six to eight minutes. Take the corn out and it’s ready to serve. Boiling corn with a cup of milk and
butter creates the most delicious corn imaginable. Truly, the best way to cook corn-on- the- cob.

Then, we’ll have a debate to see what are
your favorite activities in terms of art and creativity.
Daniel: Alright, so now here’s another commercial!

Daniel: Let’s have a debate! Are you interested in art? Are you creative? Are you interested in any of
the schools or clubs? Let’s talk about it, right after this…

I need to be creative, curious and outgoing. I usually work on my videos four times a week, and I love it!

Person 2: I know, right! And it’s the best book series ever.
Person 1: Oh, is it an adaptation from a book? I didn’t know. I’m going to read it.
2.

Person 2: Cool, what movies are we watching?
Person 1: Try to guess, I‘ll give you a hint…it’s a great saga with amazing special effects and action
scenes. Hmm…I’m not sure. Can you give me another hint?
Person 1: The main characters are really good and, even if some of the movies are just decent, they
are never boring.
Person 2: Indiana Jones?
Person 1: Ok. One last hint. Lightsabers.
Person 2: Oh, got it!
Person 1: So, are you coming?
Person 2: Absolutely!
3.
Person 1: So, did you do movie night last Friday?
Person 2: Yes, we did. But do you know what my sister did? She insisted on watching this romance
movie. And my parents agreed. It was so boring. I hated it. I wanted to watch an action
movie but no, we watched a movie about two teenagers.

Person 1: And welcome to „Cinema Today“, our weekly mini-podcast about the world of cinema. I’m
Kathrine Cooper. Today we’ll be talking about actress Jennifer Lawrence. I’m joined here
in the studio by movie critic Eric Kiss – Hello Eric and thanks for being here!
Person 2: Thank you, Kathrine!
Person 1: Eric, to be honest, don’t we already know everything about her?
Person 2: Well, we’ll see. Maybe our listeners are interested in her origins.
Person 1: Okay, so how was her life when she was a child?
Person 2: Well, she had a pretty normal childhood. She loved sports and hanging out with her friends
at summer camp.
Person 1: She grew up in Kentucky, didn‘t she?
Person 2: Yes, she lived with her parents and her two brothers in a farm just outside the city of
Louisville.
Person 1: Wow, so how did she become an actress?
Person 2: Well, professionally everything started one day when she was in New York with her mother.
A model photographer came up to them and asked for permission to take a picture of her.
Jennifer said okay and then a couple of days later somebody called her for an audition.
Person 1: Just like that?
Person 2: Yes, pretty much. She stayed in New York for tthe summer, she did more auditions and
worked as a model.
Person 1: And what about her parents? Were they happy with it?
Person 2: Well, not really. They didn’t want her to leave school so soon, so they made a deal. They
would let her act, if she finished her studies.
Person 1: And obviously she did.
Person 2: Yes, Jennifer was a very good student – very good. She actually graduated from high school
two years early and with very good grades.
Person 1: Two years early? That means she graduated at age sixteen. That is impressive!
Person 2: Yes, she is not only a pretty face, she also has a privileged brain.
Person 1: And she is also a very talented actress. Did she take any acting lessons?
Person 2: No, she didn’t take any acting lessons. She started acting in TV series and movies without
any training.
Person 1: A natural talent. It looks like she has got it easy, is that right?
Perosn 2: No, she works very hard to prepare for her roles and at the beginning she was rejected for
some roles. Not many people know this but in 2007, she auditioned for the role of Bella
Swan in Twilight and she lost it to Kristen Stewart.
Person 1: Seriously? I didn’t know that. That would’ve been a very different Twilight movie. Talking
about romance, what can you tell us about Jennifer’s love life?
Person 2: Well, as far as I know she dated fellow X-Men cast member Nicholas Hoult for three years.
Soon after in August 2014, she began a romantic relationship with Coldplay singer Chris
Martin but they broke up a year later. Then, she began a new relationship with a movie
director.
Person 1: Okay, wow. Unfortunately, that’s all the time we have. Thank you so much for being with us
today, Eric, we did learn new things about this talented actress and thank you to everyone
for listening to our show. See you all next week!

Mum: Alright, alright. Then why don’t we visit your grandmother on Sunday? I’m calling her to
change our plans.
Ashley: Great! Now let’s see, if have clothes that match the class colours – blue, white and red. We
are all dressing up for the occasion.

Track 13  p.72

American Independence Day falls on the 4th of July. It commemorates the signing of the Declaration
of Independence on July 4th 1776, so you could say it’s like when the USA was born. Americans like
to party in many ways on this holiday but people mostly celebrate by going to picnics and barbecues.
People like to dress in red, white and blue, the colours of the American flag, so it’s a real American
holiday. On the 4th of July, Americans also celebrate with fireworks and parades. During the daytime,
people take to the streets to see parades marching through the city.
Another popular holiday in the United States is Thanksgiving, which also marks the start of the holiday
season, which includes Christmas, Hannuka, Kwanzaa and the Winter Solstice, so it’s the start of the
busiest season of the year, especially for shops in the U.S.
Halloween is
known for its gothic origins and more importantly, it’s scary costumes, elaborate parties and events
and horror film festivals.

Amy: Hi, Josh, are you going to Amanda’s party on Sunday?
Josh: Sure! A birthday party at the beach? I’m excited!
Amy: Me too! I love the beach. We’re going to have a lot of fun.
Josh: What time is the party?
Amy: 4pm. And then we can stay all evening. My mum is picking me up at 11pm.
Josh: Cool! I know there’s a bonfire at 9pm and before that we’re playing games. There’s a volleyball
competition and frisbee too.
Amy: Great! What are we buying for her? She’s turning 13.
Josh: What about a fish costume? It could be fun.
Amy: No way! Let’s buy her a pretty sunhat.
Josh: Alright, why don’t we meet on Sunday?
Amy: Yeah, let’s do that. See you on Sunday, then.
Josh: Wait! The party is not on this Sunday, it’s next Sunday, right? On the 21st of June?
Amy: Obviously.

Unit 6  Once upon a time…

1.
It is the story of a mischievous boy who is eternally young. The boy is the leader of the lost boys, a
group of kids who live on the isle of Neverland. He has a fairy-friend – Tinkerbell. The hero takes a girl
and her two brothers to Neverland, where they are captured by pirates. The hero has to rescue his
friends. The leader of the pirates, Captain Hook, is the hero’s fiercest enemy. He is a pirate who lost
his right hand in a fight with a crocodile.
2.
The hero of this story is a funny, young boy who is very small and lives in a beautiful foreign land. He
has three friends called Merry, Pippin and Samwise. He finds a ring which has magical powers and
must destroy it. In order to destroy the ring he must go through forests, rivers, plains, darkness and
snow. This is a dangerous misson but people like Aragorn, a brave warrior, and Gandalf, a powerful
wizard, acompany him to help him.
3.
This is the story of a brave, young boy who did not have an easy start in life. His parents were
murdered, so he lived with his horrible uncle and aunt. They have a terrible boy named Dudley.
This young boy discovered one day that he could go to Hogwarts, an extraordinary school. In this
school, the classes are very different from other schools. Students take classes on subjects, such as
transfiguration, charms, potions, history of magic, astronomy and herbology. And, they also learn
how to fly on broomsticks and how to use magic wands.

Track 16  p.86

'The Witches' is not a fairytale. It is about real witches. The narrator is an English boy who, at the
beginning of the story, lived in England with his parents. When the boy’s parents died in an accident,
he moved to Norway to live with his grandmother, who used to be a witchofile, someone who studies
the witches. His grandmother told him many scary stories, especially about real witches and how they
make children disappear. The boy loved his grandmother and her stories very much. Sometime later,
the boy and his grandmother move back to England because his parents wanted him to study there.
One summer, they went to a hotel in Bournemouth, in the south coast of England. While the boy was

playing with his pet mice in a conference room in the hotel, he found out the witches plan to kill all the
children in England. Later, Bruno Jenkins, another boy who spent his holidays in the same hotel, came
in the room and the witches transformed him into a mouse. Then, the witches smelled the boy and
transformed him into a mouse as well. The two boys, now two mice, ran to the grandmother’s room
and asked her for help. Finally, the boy and his grandmother decided on a plan to kill the witches.

When one her fingers touched me, I bit it. It was a silly thing to do but I did it instinctively,
without thinking. The maid let out a scream that must have been heard by ships, far out
in the English channel and she dropped the shoes and ran like the wind down the corridor.
My grandmother’s door opened. 'What on earth is going on out here?' I darted between her legs into
her room and Bruno followed me. 'Close the door, grandmama!' I cried, 'Please hurry!'

The Pig
Roald Dahl
In England once there lived a big
And wonderfully clever pig.
To everybody it was plain
That Piggy had a massive brain.
He worked out sums inside his head,
There was no book he hadn’t read.
He knew what made an airplane fly,
He knew how engines worked and why.
He knew all this, but in the end
One question drove him round the bend:
He simply couldn’t puzzle out
What LIFE was really all about.

Hello everyone, and welcome to our daily programme. As usual, we will make the summary plot of
a famous novel and then we’ll discuss it. Today’s story is one of my favourites – Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory. This is the story of a boy named Charlie, who lived in a very small house with his
parents and grandparents. They were poor and did not eat a lot. One day in the newspaper, Mr. Willy
Wonka, who had a chocolate factory, announced that he put five golden tickets in five chocolate bars
which he sent around the world. The five children who find the tickets can visit the chocolate factory.
One of them can even get an amazing present. Charlie was very excited about this. Because his family
was poor, he couldn’t have chocolate. Then one day, he found money in the street. Then he bought a
chocolate bar and he found a golden ticket! He went to visist the factory with his grandpa and four
other children. Mister Wonka showed them many incredible inventions. During the visit, the other
four children were impulsive and dumb and left the factory. Charlie won and finally, he inherited the
chocolate factory.

Miss Collins: Hi, this is Mrs. Collins, calling from France.
Travel agent consultant: Oh, hi, Mrs. Collins, thanks for calling. Your schedule is ready, let me just
get it.
Miss Collins: Sure.
Travel agent consultant: Okay, here it is. Let’s check your travel dates. So, you were staying in
Louisiana from June 1st until June 15th, is that right?
Travel agent consultant: Okay, and then let’s go through your activities programme. In New Orleans
you are going to visit the world famous French Quarter, including Jackson
There’s a lot to
see there as well. The two capitals, the old and the new one, and there’s a
French quarter there too.

Jess: Hey, Cynthia! Kind of. I’m preparing my backpack. What should I pack? Should I take any
warm clothes?
Cynthia: No way! In July it is usually really hot. You should take a hat, suncream and a swimsuit.
Jess: Okay, cool. I prefer it when it’s warm. What about a rain coat?
Cynthia: Yeah, it’s a good idea! It’s going to rain some days for sure.

Cynthia: So, what are you going to do?
Jess: Well, we’re going to arrive in Baton Rouge on July the 7th. From there we are going to visit
New Orleans and on July the 10th, we are going by bus to Jackson, Mississippi.
Cynthia: Cool, they are really busy cities, you are going to love them. In New Orleans, you must visit
the French Quarter and you should go on a boat tour of Mississippi River. Aren’t you going
to visit any national parks?
Jess: Yeah, what do you think? Near Jackson, we’re going to walk in Delta National Forest and
visit Panther Swamp Wildlife Refuge. I think we can help at the refuge.
Cynthia: Yeah, maybe. I visited it last year and it was incredible. They’re probably going to let you
feed the alligators and you’re going to see wild animals in the swamp. You must take pictures
and videos.
Jess: Yeah, I’m going to upload them to my blog every day.
Cynthia: Cool!

For breakfast, you will have fresh fruit from the lady who grows strawberries on the roof of her
building. You and your parents will leave the house together since your school would be on the way to
their jobs in a place that sounds like a spaceship. What do they call it? A green enterprise zone. Once
you are on the bike path, you will see lots of interesting things. There will be a building with plants
growing on the walls. The people working there, will help connect that building with other ones in the
neighbourhood, so they can share energy that won’t produce pollution. At school, you will help plant
trees and take care of them and people will collect the fruit growing from them to take them to the
social center and share them with the neighbourhood.
