Anaphy Lab Notes Specimen Slides

The document describes the various parts of a microscope and their functions. It includes 20 labeled parts such as the binocular observation tube, eyepieces, stage, objectives, condenser, light source, and controls for movement and focusing. The last section provides photomicrographs of tissues from the integumentary, skeletal, and muscular systems for examination under a microscope.

Label Description/Function

1. Binocular Observation Tube

2. Eyepiece Usually with 10x magnification.
3. Observation tube Clamping Knob Allows users to rotate the binocular observation tube.
4. Pre – focusing Knob Controls the mechanism for preventing collision
between the specimen and objective.
5. Interpupillary Distance Adjustment Scale Allows the user to regulate the two eyepieces
according to the distance between their eyes. Allows
the user to see a single microscopic image through
eyepieces. Greatly reduces fatigue during focusing.
6. Diopter Adjustment Ring Compensates for the difference in eyesight between
your eyes.
7. Eye Shades Prevents extraneous light from entering between the
eyepieces and the eyes. Must remain folded if the user
is wearing eyeglasses.
8. Revolving Nosepiece Allows the user to shift objective shifts
9. Objectives Generates the initial magnification of the image

Scanning Objective - Red, 4x

Low Power Objective - Yellow, 10x
High Power Objective - Blue, 40x
Oil Immersion Objective - White, 100x
10. Stage Equipped with a stage clip to keep the specimen in
place.
11. Stage Clip

12. Specimen Holder Scale Allows the user to determine the area of the specimen
observed in terms of coordinates
13. Coarse Adjustment Knob Elevates or lowers the stage to roughly focus the
specimen.
14. Fine Adjustment Knob Elevates or lowers the stage in smaller increments or
pre-measured distance to refine focus usually after
shifting to higher objectives.
15. Specimen Holder Y-axis feed knob Moves the specimen vertically.
16. Specimen holder X-axis feed knob Moves the specimen horizontally.
17. Condenser Directs light in parallel waves through the specimen
18. Condenser Height Adjustment Knob Elevates or lowers the condenser to adjust the
brightness in the field of view
19. Aperture Iris Diaphragm Ring Rotated to the corresponding objective in use to
control the amount of light that enters the condenser.
Has an objective magnification scale (4x, 10x, 40x,
100x) along the edge, making sure the scale
corresponding to the objective in use faces forward.
20. Main Switch Turns the microscope on or off
21. Light Source
22. Light Intensity Adjustment Knob Adjust the intensity of light, must be set to zero before
turning the microscope off.
