ELECTROweek3 Cpy

This document contains questions about battery voltage readings and instructions for creating a personalized electronics toolbox. The questions ask students to compare listed battery voltages to average readings, infer battery condition from low readings, and explain the purpose of a load resistor. The instructions list components students must include in their toolbox, such as resistors, wires, batteries, and tools for building circuits. Students are asked to organize these materials and have their toolbox prepared for the electronics course.

GRADE AND SECTION: _____________________

QUESTIONS TO PONDER:

1. Compare and contrast the listed battery voltage with that of your average reading.
Is there a difference? Explain.

2. What can you infer when an average voltage reading is less than about half the
listed voltage of the battery?

3. Why is it that a load resistor is important to get the accurate condition of the
battery?

4. What is meant by a zero-test reading of a battery?

A reading equal to the listed battery voltage does not necessarily mean the
battery is good. The battery can be too weak to power your device but still have
enough charge to register its listed voltage on the meter.

EXTENSION TASK: PERSONALIZED TOOLBOX

Since we are familiarized already with the basic electrical and electronic
components - its symbols and functions, we are now ready to make our DIY personalized
electronics toolbox. Each one of you will do this task for you to buy in advance the
electronics materials that we will be needing for this quarter course and have everything
arranged and intact in your toolbox. The following are the list of components that must be
in your personalized toolbox.
1. Color resistors of different ohmic values
470W, 1.0kW, 1.5kW, 1.0MW
2. Red and black connecting wires like alligator clips and jumper wires
3. Battery and bulb holder, D cells and 9-volt battery and connectors
4. Breadboard
5. Multimeter (analog or digital)
6. LED’s and flashlight bulbs
7. Electronics tools like long nose, pliers, and screwdriver set
8. Storage plastic box and
9. Soldering set
10. #30-gauge NS wire of length: 80cm, 120cm, 160cm, 200cm
11. #18-gauge nichrome wire of 0.00010m in diameter
12. #24-gauge nichrome wire of 0.0005m in diameter
13. #30-gauge Cu wire of length 2000cm
