London, center of the global economy: What are the economic, political and cultural

assets of London ?

I bet that you’d all agree that London is one of the most popular cities in the world, everyone has
already heard of it, we even visited it together! But all this attention triggers a question, what
makes it so famous? Why is the global impact of the city so big? we all wanna know. But thanks
to us today this question is going to be answered. First we need to know how we can judge the
global impact of a city, and we figured that a global city must have a strong economy and rich
culture and good politics. So this are the three aspect of london that we based our study on,
starting by the economy!

economic
we will now talk about the economic power of the capital. In 2014, London is the fifth largest
city in the world in terms of GDP (which is the gross domestic product) , and the largest in
Europe, ahead of Paris intra muros. Greater London accounts for about a quarter of UK
GDP, and the London metropolitan area about a third.

The UK capital is the world's leading financial centre and one of the main international
business centres. One of the areas of London that best represents this economic power is of
course the City of London, which is in the east of the city and is one of the most important
business districts in the world. It handles about $900 billion a month, which is about three
times more than its main competitor New York. It is home to the headquarters of almost all
the major British companies, such as shell, Unilever, and HSBC. The London Stock
Exchange also plays an important role in the city's economy. This 24-hour market is
considered the largest in Europe and the third largest in the world;

London has developed trade links with the rest of the world and particularly with the
Commonwealth (of which it is the capital), which comprises 54 of the former colonies of the
British Empire (a market of 2 billion people) with which London maintains intense and
privileged trade relations. Commonwealth member states include India, Pakistan, Australia,
English-speaking Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, Mauritius, etc.

This international trade is partly made possible but also greatly facilitated by the English
language shared by many countries in the world, of which England is of course one. This
common language facilitates communication and thus the international economy, making the
city shine.

However, it can also be said that the London economy is quite elitist due to the cost of living
in the capital. London is indeed one of the most expensive cities in the world, particularly in
terms of property prices, where prices are around 24,000 euros per square metre. There are
also very strong economic inequalities in the capital, with an unemployment rate slightly
above the national level.

This situation has only worsened in recent years, particularly due to the Brexit, multiplying
the number of homeless people in the city by four.
culture

culture is a pretty vast subject so i chose to divide it in 3 main parts

-first there is art. Art has always been a big part of London's culture from
Banksy to the Beatles. London is everywhere. The city has raised many world
known artists through the years. In fact the city is rich with history with over
192 museums, and artistic hubs like soho camden or brixton. Art is something
that you can find at every corner in london. Going from the Musicals like the
lion king that you shall not miss if you step foot in the city, to the music that
our parents danced to when we were our age and stayed through the years
like Pink Floyd or the Rolling Stones, art in London is everywhere. If this all
seems old to you, you will be happy to know that london keeps dominating the
musical industry to this day, very few people won't know who i talk about when
i bring up central cee, this young londanian talent is on top of every charts
worldwide today, representing strongly the uk drill all over the world with
songs like doja or obsessed with you.

-but that’s not the only subject where london is dominating

Sport and London are also really closely related. We all know about the 2012
londanian Olympics which made for the time of an event london the world’s
capital of sports. But sport is also well represented in London by football. In
fact London is football, the city abrits 7 of 20 premiere league teams. For
those who don’t know what première is, it's the most watched league in the
world. And not longer than 2 years ago London showed how it dominates this
sport with Chelsea winning the Champions league, which is the European cup
for clubs. even if in my heart Tottenham remains the best londanian team.

- and last but not least, London's culture would be nothing without
architecture. London has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, to
name a few of the incredible things you could see. We could talk about the
London eye, built to mark London's millennium celebrations in 2000, it is
Europe's largest observation wheel. You can literally not miss the tower
bridge, made of two huge towers rising 200 feet in the air competing with the
golden bridge for the most impressive bridge in the world. You can also find
the dream of every prince and princess, the Buckingham palace, home of the
royal family for many years., and finally what would London be without the
most famous clock in the world, the big ben.
even if all these aspects don't show the entire culture of london. Knowing
them makes it indisputable that London's culture is as rich as culture can be.

Politics:
The capital of the United Kingdom has been a city of global importance for
several centuries. It concentrates elements of political power that are linked to
its leadership of the Commonwealth.
It is an international association consisting of the UK together with states that
were previously part of the British Empire, and dependencies.
After the end of the colonial empire, most of the former British colonies chose
to join the Commonwealth of Nations, an association of 53 equal states (18
from Africa, 12 from the Caribbean, 10 from the South Pacific, 8 from Asia, 3
from Europe and 2 from the Americas), an association of countries that
includes 2 billion people.
London is the capital of this Commonwealth. The new King Charles III is the
head of state in some of them, such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand,
even though they are in fact governed by a Prime Minister.
Member countries retain their freedom of domestic policy, but cooperate in the
fields of communications, medicine, exchange of scientific researchers, trade
and economic aid. Regular conferences of ministers of finance, health,
education and heads of government are held.
The British Overseas Territories are administered from London. From a
political point of view, London is therefore at the head of an important network
of political influence.
Its political center is located in the west of the city, around Buckingham
Palace, the Parliament and the Prime Minister's residence, the famous 10
Downing Street.
On the religious level, the colonization of this Empire was accompanied by
Christian evangelization. Thus, the Christian religion has spread widely on all
continents.
Moreover, the British political system, which is the parliamentary monarchy,
served as a model for many of its former colonies at the time of their
independence.
London also has the Palace and Abbey of Westminster, which is the seat of
Parliament and the coronation place of the Kings of England. It is here that
Queen Elizabeth will be buried on September 19.
Conclusion:
Based on this presentation we can now safely say that London's economy is
strong, that its culture is rich, that its politics is good, making the global city
title well deserved.
