The graph shows the number of car journeys into the city centre made by residents and non-
residents over a ten year period. In 1996 an 1 average of just under 10,000 journeys per day
were being made by residents, while 2 approximately half that number were made by non-
residents. Over the 3 subsequent three years, resident journeys remained reasonably 4 stable,
while non-resident journeys increased each year, 5 exceeding 8,000 per day in 1999.
In early 2000, parking meters were introduced into the city centre, and this had the effect of
virtually 6 halving resident traffic, although non-resident traffic decreased only slightly. By the
end of 2002, the number of resident journeys had not 7 altered significantly, but non-resident
journeys had risen to their 1999 level. At this point, Westgate Street and Park Lane were
pedestrianised. This resulted in a dramatic 8 decline in non-resident traffic, and a slight decrease
in resident traffic. From this point 9 onward, resident traffic remained more or less at the same
level, while non-resident traffic resumed its 10 upward trend, reaching nearly 5,000 journeys per

funding in the same place. Overall, the highest amount of funding was allocated to research TB
and the highest death could be observed from TB also.

10 millions.

and the death caused by this disease in this area. The highest amount was funded for TB, the
highest number of death was caused by this diseases. A very similar trend could be observed for
all the other diseases. The lowest amount was funded for Leprosy, the least number of the death
was caused by this disease. The research funding of each disease is in line with the number of
death.
