Level: Level is an instrument which is used for observing staff


reading on leveling staff kept over different points.

1- Fix the instrument on the tripod.


The tripod legs are well spread on the ground with tripod head nearly
level and at a convenient height. Fix up the level on the tripod.
2- Leveling
i. First kept the telescope parallel to any of the two foot screws as
in the figure.
ii. By turning the foot screws either inwards or outwards
simultaneously bring the bubble to the center of plate level.
iii. Turn the telescope through 90°, by using third foot screw
(perpendicular to the first position). Check the center the bubble.

3- Staff Reading
Direct the telescope to the leveling staff
and on looking through the telescope, turn
the focusing screw until the image appears
clears (Focusing the object glass). The
image is formed inside the plan of cross
hairs. And read the staff.
