Go Green Event

About Go Green Event

BAJA SAEINDIA organizes “Go Green” event every year since 2009. This event is applicable only for the mBAJA
teams. Teams will be awarded based on Virtual Evaluation and *Prototype Evaluation & Emission test conducted
at event site.

Objective
This event is organized to spread “awareness on exhaust emissions from the IC engines” and “to reduce the
exhaust emission using different technologies”.

Rules
⮚ Participation in this event is optional for the teams participating in BAJA SAEINDIA 2022 event.
⮚ Poster file name should be named in the following format: TeamID_Team Name_Go Green Poster
⮚ Deadline for submission of Go Green Event is 30th November,2022, 23:59 IST. The submission should be
made the through the BAJA SAEINDIA Website Submission section
⮚ Evaluation Criteria:
S.no Sub - Round Max marks Phase 2 / phase 3

1 Virtual Poster Evaluation & Presentation 25 Marks

Phase 2
MCQ Quiz on Emission,Health Effects, Aftertreatment (Online)
2 25 Marks
Systems, Fuel Specs, Norms & Testing
3 Physical Prototype Evaluation 25 Marks Phase 3
4 Emission Test Results on Prototype 25 Marks (Offline)

⮚ The scores received in this event will not be considered for calculating the Overall Scores.

Evaluation Criteria
A. Virtual Poster Evaluation & Presentation: 25 Marks
• Teams should strictly use the Poster Format released on BAJA SAEINDIA Forum.
• Posters must be displayed by teams to judges during the Virtual Evaluation in their respective time slot.
• Marks will be given based on:
▪ Concepts
▪ Design Consideration & Calculation
▪ Creativity & Originality
▪ Schematic of Aftertreatment Device & Layout Integration with BAJA Buggy
▪ Presentation Skills and Q&A

Presentation
The presentation should cover the overview of how team has reduced exhaust emissions from SI Engines by
using various technologies and needs to be presented in front of panel judges. The presentation will be done
virtually. The schedule for the presentation will be released separately on the BAJA SAEINDIA Forum.

Presentation Format
⮚ Teams have the flexibility regarding the format of presentation, but teams should ensure that Virtual Poster
Evaluation & Presentation must be explained within 20 Minutes.
⮚ Setup of Presentation & Introduction will be restricted to 5 Minutes
⮚ Maximum of 4 team members are allowed for the presentation.
B. MCQ Quiz on Emission, Health Effects, Aftertreatment Systems, Fuel Specs, Norms & Testing:
25 Marks (NEW)
● Twenty-Five (25) Questions will be asked to each Team as per the Basic Knowledge of Emission,
Health Effects, Aftertreatment Systems, Fuel Specs, Norms & Testing. ARAI Emission Booklet
enclosed along with this Guideline. Students can refer following reference books for
understanding the same even though it is not mandatory:
a. Engine Emissions Fundamentals and Advances in Control - B.P Pundir
b. Engine Emission Control Technologies - G Amba Prasad Rao
c. Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals - John B Heywood
● Teams must go through the following sections (title & page no) of ARAI Emission Booklet:
a. 2Wheeler: 01-16
b. 3Wheeler: 17-26
c. M & N Vehicle: 39-55
d. Emission Control: 85-86
e. Fuel Specification: 89-105
● A seminar on “Engine Emission & Control Strategies” will be conducted during BAJA Mega
Workshops in order to educate the students about the same. Teams must attend the seminar
without fail for a quick knowledge check. Dates of the workshop will be communicated to
teams separately.

C. Physical Prototype Evaluation: 25 Marks

• Teams should present their Physical Prototype in their respective time slot
• The Prototype must be Emission Reduction Pipe with flange - A new pipe like the original one but
fitted with Aftertreatment Systems, which is made only to check emission during Go Green Event.
• Marks will be given based on following aspects:
a. Presence of Flange & Cones
b. Material, Welding & Build Quality
c. Correlation of Simulation Results with respect to Actual Prototype Results
d. Number of Pollutants Targeted (CO, HC, NOx & Gasoline PM)
e. Communication Skills and Q&A
• Please find below the Schematic Diagram of Aftertreatment System

D. Emission Test Results on Prototype: 25 Marks

● CO (Carbon Monoxide) & HC (Hydrocarbon) emission to be measured with the prototype at
High idle.
● Based on the Overall Performance in 1st,2nd & 3rd Round , Top 5 to 10 Teams(based on
Judges Evaluation) will be shortlisted for Emission Testing.(Shortlisted Teams will be
communicated same day to be present for Emission Testing.)
● Teams who would not be participating in Phase III, those teams have to send their team
members along with Prototype at the Event Site for Evaluation.
