Module-3 2

This document provides an overview of mindsets, including definitions, types, and importance. It discusses that a mindset refers to whether you believe qualities like intelligence are fixed or can change. There are two basic types of mindsets: a fixed mindset where you believe these qualities cannot change, and a growth mindset where you believe they can develop through effort. Having a growth mindset can help you better cope with challenges and transform your life by creating new ways of seeing and acting. Examining mindsets is important both personally and globally to address deeper issues.

What Is Your Mindset?

Do you have a fixed or growth mindset?Start

reading the following statements and
decide which ones you agree with most.

1. People have a certain amount of

intelligence, and there isn't any way
to change it.
2. No matter who you are, there isn't
much you can do to improve your
basic abilities and personality.
3. People are capable of changing who
they are.
4. You can learn new things and
improve your intelligence.
5. People either have particular talents,
or they don't. You can't just acquire
talent for things like music, writing,
art, or athletics.
6. Studying, working hard, and
practicing new skills are all ways to
develop new talents and abilities.

If you tend to agree with statements 1, 2,

and 5, then you probably have a more fixed
mindset. If you agree with statements 3, and
4, 6, however, then you probably tend to
have a growth mindset.

We live in turbulent times. Everyone is

interrelated challenges they haven’t faced
before. Collectively, we are facing an ever-
growing number of social and ecological crises
that continue to intensify and worsen. The
ultimate source of today's great challenges —
the primary root cause that creates all of our
crises in the first place — is also our
mindsets. All of today's great global problems
are consequences of reliving unexamined habits
of mind.

Thus, the deeper reason to examine our

mindset is so we can mount a self-aware
response to the great challenges of our day. We
simply can’t respond to our personal and global
problems in a meaningful way unless we also
learn how to examine our mindsets as an
integral part of how we live our lives.
