ABSTRACT
The aim of this research is to reveal how communication and interaction in classrooms can be enhanced with
the communicative approach education provided for teachers. Communication is supreme in education.
Whether it is teacher to student, student to teacher, teacher to teacher, teacher to parent or admin to parent, or
vice versa, communication is a must to make sure our students are successful So, in this action research we will
be able to know the effects of having a good communication and interaction to the education of the students and
also, we will be able to enhance some strategy when it comes to connecting to the students. Successful teaching
is considered to require only 50% knowledge to 50% communication skills. As a result, a teacher should be
capable in all four type of communication, which are listening, speaking, reading, and writing and should know
how to make use of this expertise functionally in a school environment. Being able to achieve this has been
proven to impact the success of the students achieve in their academic lives, as well as the teacher’s own career
success. Effective communication between teachers and students is very important. It allows you to perform the
job well, with good results for your students. What makes it more important is that being able to have a good
communication as a teacher to a student will also help them not just in school but also in their social life In this
action research we will have 2 videos of a teacher who are teaching, each teacher will have different way of
teaching that will be seen in the video. After that we will conduct a survey or a questionnaire to some students
and ask them which teacher is their favorite, or which teacher they will prefer. It was also observed that the
teacher’s impression of the lessons carried out by using the communicative approach type was positive. As a
result of the research, it was concluded that the communicative approach type is applicable in the teaching. It
can be said that the strategies given to the teachers will create awareness about the use of the communicative
approach in classroom communication and interaction and it provided benefits to the education of the students

already educators who provided insight and expertise that greatly assisted the research, although they may not
I thank Ms. Leah Katrina Landar for assistance in creating the abstract and also Mrs. Jovel Labadan for
comments that greatly improved the manuscript. I would also like to show my gratitude to some of my close
friends online for sharing their pearls of wisdom with us during the course of this research.
Nobody has been more important to me in the pursuit of this project than the members of my family. I would
like to thank my parents; whose love and guidance are with me in whatever I pursue. They are the ultimate role
models.
Finally, I thank my God, my good Father, for letting me through all the difficulties. I have experienced Your
guidance day by day. You are the one who will let me finish my degree.
“Being able to communicate is vital to being an effective educator. Communication not only conveys
information, but it encourages effort, modifies attitudes, and stimulates thinking. Without it, stereotypes
develop, messages become distorted, and learning is stifled.” this was stated by Leah Davies, M. Ed. It
somehow shows us how important communication is, especially for the education of the students. We
communicate with others, not only verbally, but by how we act. Since we are persistently sending messages, we
need to be aware of our appearance, posture, eye contact, use of space, body movement, what we carry with us,
and our facial expressions. When what we say contradicts our nonverbal behavior, mistrust and confusion
results because listeners believe what they see. According to Saunders and Mills (1999), there are four main
skills involved in communication engagements by individuals, listening, speaking, reading and writing, and that
the effectiveness of the process of communication is heavily dependent on the extent of shared understanding of
the contexts in which the communication takes place. In practice, however, although the formality of the
communication between teachers and students is meant for enhancing the success prospects of the teaching-
learning process, there are numerous incidents in which the process fails to achieve desired results (Khan, 2011)
). Effective communication between teachers and students is meant for creating a positive classroom
environment, an element that is usually inhibited by the failure of teachers to engage their students. The result
of such is a situation in which students are forced to unduly struggle to maintain focus on the subject matter
(Khan, et al., 2018a) A teacher communication skills are important for a teacher in the delivery of education to
students. To address this issue, my study was guided by an article made by Leah Davies M. Ed. About an
effective communication. Since there are some studies regarding the effect of not having a good communication
and interaction in a classroom, this study will also be about how to improve classroom communication and
interaction and the importance of enhancing it. teacher communication skills are important for a teacher in the
students. With this, the researchers propose to do some survey to the chosen respondents after letting them
watch the two types of teaching in a video. A study conducted by Ehindero & Ajibade, (2000) indicates that for
effective teaching, teacher requires good communication skills such as good communication, good classroom
management, updating knowledge and maintaining personality. If teachers adopt positive professional attitude
towards the students in their academic and as well as their social achievements, then students can easily
promote their academic level. Teacher has the responsibility to teach and practically prepare students for the
purpose that they can cope with all type of situations. It also comes under the responsibilities of teacher to
The strategy that would be use in this study shall be done in these steps:
Step 1: Showing a video of two teachers teaching using only knowledge of the lesson and the other one’s using
not just knowledge of the lesson but also having an interaction with the students.
Step 2: With the chosen respondents/students, they will be given a chance to watch those videos and compare
them.

This study on Improving Classroom Communication and Interaction in Elementary Students aims to reveal how
communication and interaction in classrooms can be enhanced with the communicative approach education
provided for teachers. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questions:
1.) What forms of communication strategies can help in improving classroom communication?
2.) Is there any effects for having and not having a good communication between teachers and students?
3.) What are the effects and impact on having a good interaction and classroom communication in elementary
students?
To achieve the research aims and objectives of this study, a qualitative design was utilized. In particular, this
choice of the qualitative research design here was informed by the fact that compared to quantitative research
design, a qualitative design is hailed for offering detailed, in-depth descriptions of the opinions, ideas, and
experiences, while accounting for the influence of contextual factors (Rahman, 2016) )
The researcher will gather information and data through survey, the gather will be tabulated and subject to
The respondents of this study will be some Grade 5-6 students from any elementary school. There will be a total
of 10 respondents in my study. I will use the Random Sampling Method in choosing my respondents, when we
say random sampling method it is part of sampling technique in which each sample has an equal probability of
being chosen. In using this type of method, it is much less complicated because the respondents are selected
randomly.

A survey was used as the study tool in our investigation. It is an Adaptive-Modified type of survey. Adaptive
because we got some of the questions from Google, and Modified because we also made questions ourselves.
By quick gathering I spread the survey using Messenger and Facebook instead of using google forms since most

After the researcher finish the survey questionnaire. She already chooses her respondents/subjects directly. The
plan was to choose 10 students from elementary schools and give them a survey about teacher’s strategy of
teaching. Out of the 10 students, 8 of them chooses the teacher that teaches in a creative way but 2 students also
preferred the serious type of teaching. The students have their reasons. The details are following:

b. Observation
7
The questionnaire in this research consisted of 10 questions and each questionnaire used to find the students’
interest, difficulty, understanding, and motivation in learning. Observation was done while the students did the
survey. From the observation, the researcher knew the problems and also the answer of this particular action
research. Based on the observation, the children prefer the friendly type of teaching although not all teachers
can appear friendly, most of the students want to feel safe with their advisers. Creating a safety environment
would be the first step to enhance a good communication inside the classroom. Being a good listener is also a
way of helping the students boost their confidence. As the teacher shows more interest of what they do and what
they say, the more they want to communicate and connect with them as well.
VIII. REFLECTION
Becoming an educator someday, this action research will be a guide not just to me but to other teachers as well.
If we look on the results, it shows the importance of having a good classroom communication and interaction in
elementary students. In this action research we can conclude that the communicative approach model is
applicable to any type of lesson as long as it contains a communicative approach to students. Teacher training
raises awareness of the use of communicative approach models in classroom communication and interaction
and benefits a variety of discourse styles. Overall, this study contributes to the establishment of research in
communication and interaction. This will improve student involvement and quality of education. We argue that
our education system can greatly benefit from incorporating communicative approaches into teacher education.
