Foundation Design f1

This document summarizes the calculation of reinforcement for a concrete foundation. It provides the dimensions and material properties used. It then calculates the weight and vertical load on the foundation, moments at the base, maximum and minimum soil pressures, and stability against overturning and sliding. The minimum required reinforcement is 0.99kg based on code and 16.02kg is provided, satisfying the requirement. The conclusion is that the foundation size and reinforcement provided are adequate to carry the expected loads.

FOUNDATION CALCULATION -F1

Node No: Node No: 1 10 23 32 45 54 67 76 89 98 111 120 133 142

i) Input Data
Foundation Length ( L ) = 0.60 m
Foundation width ( B ) = 0.60 m
Depth of Foundation ( D ) = 0.45 m
Total height of foundation (S2) = 0.60 m
Ht.above the NGL to Top of Grout (S1) = 0.15 m
Safe bearing capacity of soil ( δ ) = 150.00 kN/m2
Gross Bearing pressure = 158.10 kN/m2
Comp.Strength of Conc. ( fc ) = 30.00 N/mm2
Yeild Strength of steel. ( fy ) = 414.00 N/mm2
Density of Soil ( Үs ) = 18.00 kN/m3
Density of Conc. ( Үc ) = 24.00 kN/m3
Vertical Load ( P1 ) = 11.85 kN
Load along X-axis ( Hx ) = 3.02 kN
Load along Z-axis ( Hz ) = 3.30 kN
Moment about - X ( Mx ) = 0.00 kN-m
Moment about - Z ( Mz ) = 0.00 kN-m
Coefficient of friction ( п ) = 0.4

ii) Weight of Foundation

Wt.of Conc.Base ( Wf ) = L x D x B x Yc
= 5.18 kN
Total Vertical Reaction ( P ) = Wf + P1
= 17.03 kN
iii)Moment at Base

a).About X-X axis Mx = (Hz x S2) +Mx

= 1.98 kN-m
b).About Z-Z axis Mz = (Hx x S2) +Mz
= 1.81 kN-m

Maximum Soil Pressure :

qmax = P + 6Mx + 6Mz
LB BL2 LB2 < δa = 158.10 KN/m
2

2
= 152.77 kN/m HENCE SAFE

Minimum Soil Pressure :

qmin = P - 6Mx - 6Mz
LB BL2 LB2 < δa = 158.10 KN/m2

2
= -58.14 kN/m HENCE SAFE
iv)Stability Checks:
Factor of Safety Against overturning:
FOS = Resisting moment (RM)
Overturning moment (OM)
Resisting moment (RM) = P x (B/2)
= 5.11 KN-m
Overturning moment (OM) = Mx = 1.98 kN-m
Mz = 1.81 kN-m
FOS = RM
OM
= 2.58 > 1.8
HENCE SAFE
Factor of Safety Against sliding :
Resisting Force RF = Pxп
= 6.81 KN
2 2
Sliding Force SF = SOQT (Hx +Hz )
= 4.48 KN
FOS = RF
SF
= 1.52 > 1.5
HENCE SAFE

v) Reinforcement for Foundation:

The minimum steel for the foundation shall be 0.0018% (As per ACI 318M - 11_Cl.7.12.2)

Minimum reinforcement required = 0.0018

Maximum value has been taken

Minimum Reinforcement required for the Block:

Block Concrete Volume = 0.6 x 0.6 x 0.6 = 0.22 m3

Reinforcement Required = 0.0018 x 0.22 = 0.99 kg

Reinforcement Provided:

12 mm dia rebar weight = π/4x(12/1000)2 x 7850 = 0.89 kg/m

10 mm dia rebar weight = π/4x(10/1000)2 x 7850 = 0.62 kg/m

Outer Face along length vertical 12 dia Rebars provided = 8.00 Nos.

= 0.89 x 0.45 x 8 = 3.20 kg

Horizontal tie rods - 10 dia = 8.00 Nos.

= 0.62 x 1.8 x 8 = 12.82 kg

Therefore, Total Steel Provided = 3.2 +12.82 = 16.02 > 0.99 kg (Reqd)

Hence, Reinforcement OK

6.0 CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS:

From the presented analysis & design calculations it is concluded that the foundation sizes as shown in
design and reinforcement provided are adequate to carry the expected loading.
