Trainee’s Post-Reflection
Strength Pupils were paying attention to my instructions. Apart from that, I
was able to convey the lesson input very well and integrated moral
values in the lesson. I was also able to identify job opportunities within
the lesson and convey it to the pupils. I was also able to give
instructions very clearly by using simple terms and phrases to cater to
their level of proficiency.

Weakness The lesson was plain and boring. I also realised that my class
control was not very excellent because pupils tend to walk around the
class very randomly when I was not looking at them as I was attending
other pupils individually at the moment. Apart from that, I actually
exceeded the time I allocated for particular stage of the lesson which
almost made me had no time to finish the lesson. The worksheet was
pretty hard for them too and it seemed like the number of questions
were many for them. Some of the pupils who finished early also had
nothing to do and they tend to walk around the class when I was not
looking. I need to improve my teaching materials too by integrating ICT
or using roll up board especially when displaying the reading passage.

Suggestion for Pupils had short attention span and their attention decreased even
improvement more if the lesson is not interesting which may lead them to not paying
attention and doing other things that interested them more (Descombe,
2012). Therefore, apart from grounded the pupils with rules in the
classroom, teacher should plan an interesting teaching and learning
activity. For future improvement, I need to come up with interesting
activities such as games, arts and other ICT related activities that I can
conduct throughout the lesson. I also need to be firmer with my pupils
and make sure that they acknowledge my firmness and take it as a
lesson to improve their behaviour. For example, I can deduct their
reward sticker to make them realised that I really meant what I said
when we formed few agreeable rules together when I first entered their
class.
Apart from that, I need to constantly check my timing to avoid
myself from exceeding the time allocated for each stage of the lesson.
For the teaching materials, I need to use ICT or other suitable teaching
materials when displaying text passage and others. The reading
passage needs to be even simpler too to ease their understanding and
I should reduce the number of questions for them. I also need to give
extra work that they can do while they wait for their other friends to
finish their work rather than moving around the class for no meaningful
purpose.
