STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

INTRODUCTION
My name is Aarush and I hail from Ghaziabad, one of the biggest cities in Uttar Pradesh. I
belong to a family of four members. My father works with the Deekay Group as a Head of
Team in the department of sales & marketing in Nigeria. My mother works with the Shri
Ram Millennium School, Greater Noida as a headmistress and also takes care of the entire
family. I have a younger brother who is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science
at Amity University in Greater Noida, India.
I am a practical person with a hardworking approach. I have this innate desire to acquire
knowledge. My hobbies include reading books and magazines related to the latest
technology, photography, watching movies & travelling. I firmly believe that an individual
should strive to excel in their life & thus leave a permanent mark on society.

EDUCATION
I have completed Class 10 with 7.6 CGPA and Class 12 with 65.66% from Delhi Public
School, Ghaziabad, India in May 2014 and May 2016 respectively. Thereafter, I completed a
Bachelor of Arts (Journalism & Mass Communication) from Amity University, Greater
Noida with 7.25 CGPA in May, 2019. After completing my graduation I joined Dentsu
Watconsult as a “Management Trainee” from May 2019 till September 2019. While being
employed after my bachelor degree, I began searching for the best institutes & colleges in
Australia to pursue higher education in the Advertising and found RMIT University to be one
of the best in imparting excellent education in my area of interest. I also took the IELTS
examination in January 2019 in which I scored 7.5 bands overall.

CAREER ASPIRATIONS
My first interaction with Advertising as a subject was in my college where I was pursuing a
bachelor's in journalism and mass communication, the subject in itself was so interesting that
I went on scoring good marks in it. The subject gave me a new perspective towards watching
and analyzing ads on various platforms, which eventually made me think about the ideology
of the companies behind it, this sole reason became a driving force to help me pursue my
career in the advertising field. As it is quite evident that traditional methods of advertising are
on a steep decline and the world is moving ahead towards the digital sphere, in my opinion I
believe that digital platforms can actually make or break a brand as it is quite evident that lot
of brands which were against going digital are now liquidated in this fast paced competitive
market thus going with the bullish trend I joined Dentsu WatConsult as a digital media
executive, my experience there was quite enriching with brands such as IndiaMART, Royal
Enfield cafe, Hongs Kitchen, etc, I gained an intricate knowledge of Digital advertising and
the utilization of E-platforms for marketing.
In great words of David Ogilvy as he said “If it doesn’t sell, it isn’t creative” this quote
always makes me question each advertisement which I observe daily that could have this ad
been more creative? Hence my aim is to master the art of creative merchandising so that I can
work for the best of brands in the world, and for that I truly believe that being a part of your
esteemed institution and pursuing my postgraduate study in masters in advertising shall gave
me the ability to have a queer thinking and stand out of the crowd , it shall give me that edge
over thousands of other students who wish to pursue the similar career in the near future.

ABOUT AUSTRALIA & RMIT UNIVERSITY

Australia has a much safer and friendly environment with high class standard of living at a
lower cost. Australia has a moderate climate and Melbourne is one of the most live-able cities
of the world and has heard raves about the country from my family and friends. Melbourne is
an excellent city with one of the highest standard of living amongst the other cities of the
world and is ranked at number 3rd in the ranking of the QS Best Student Cities in 2019.
International students are able to work part time for 40 hours fortnightly while they study,
allowing them to offset their living costs.
After my graduation I started research about my study options in Australia which would help
me to widen my horizons and give me an opportunity to compete on a global platform. It is
tough to enter the top colleges in India as they require a high percentage for admission and
also the specialisations available in Australia are unavailable here in India and with more of a
theoretical base than practical. I did not want to compromise on my education and career
hence after consulting my family I decided to pursue my master’s from Australia.
Further, I researched about universities like The University of Queensland, The University of
Adelaide along with RMIT University but have chosen to study at RMIT University as it is
excellent in terms of ranking, student satisfaction awards, accreditations, student facilities,
reputation and positive student reviews in Australia. RMIT University has been consistently
ranked in the Top 1% of the universities in the world. It has been ranked at 238 in the world
by the 2020 QS World Universities Ranking and at 37th in the world for Communications
and Media Studies by the 2019 QS World Universities Subject Ranking.

CAREER PLAN
My objective of pursuing a Masters of Media is to acquire an in-depth competence and hone
my intellectual ability in this field. After the completion of my master degree, if given an
opportunity I will work in Australia with any one of the top companies in the advertising
industry. Thereafter, I can enter in professional and management roles within advertising,
promotions and management consultancies in India, a developing nation, which provides
myriad of opportunities to the students seeking their career in this area. The field offers a
promising future to the students willing to put in hard work as the country is in a colossal
need of young generation to help towards building a better India. Hence, I wish to be able to
apply, whatever I learn, to the industry and contribute towards its development.
I seek to fulfill my goals in an environment that encourages creativity and motivation. I feel
confident that the staff and facilities in your institute will provide me with such an
environment. I am well aware of the demands of studying in a more competitive environment
and am certain that I am mentally and physically competent to succeed at your esteemed
University. My enthusiasm and urge to excel will help me to make the best use of every
learning opportunity.
In conclusion I would like to say that the knowledge gained from my 3 years of Bachelor’s in
Journalism & Mass Communication has provided me with a solid foundation. After gaining
valuable experience from Australia I would like to return to my home country as there are
abundant opportunities in this area and a degree from Australia coupled with International
work experience will easily help me in getting a highly rewarding job in India and becoming
a vital part of this booming and futuristic industry. I assure you of my sincerity, dedication
and hard work.
