IMPERATIVE

Imperatives are verbs used to give orders, commands, warning or


instructions, and (if you use "please") to make a request.
For example:
• Give me that tape, please.

To make the imperative, use the infinitive form of the verb without "to"
For example:
• Come here!
• Sit down!

To make a negative imperative, use "do not" or "don't" before the verb:
For example:
• Don't go!
• Do not walk on the grass.

Practice:
a) Complete the sentences using the affirmative or negative imperative form of
the verb in parentheses.

1. Go upstairs. (to go)


2. Don´t swim in this lake. (not/to swim)
3. Do your homework. (to do)

1) Read the directions and answer with the correct place.

Go straight, turn left, go past the post office and turn right. It's the second building on the
