Course Learning Outcomes:

3. Write a variety of texts using appropriate writing skills. (C6, A2, LO2, LO6,
KKG2, KDN2)

The coursework assesses course learning outcomes number 1, 2 and 3.

The objectives of the coursework:

By the end of the project, students should be able to:

1. discuss formally the given topic in a group using appropriate listening and
speaking skills.

2. answer a one-hour reading test.

3. write a narrative essay using appropriate writing skills to be published on


google site.

COURSEWORK (100%)
Communication is one of the essential social skills required for any individual to
survive in the world. Effective communication means having an ability to listen
attentively and to convey information efficiently with empathy. It portrays your
confidence and body language which is important while having a communication with
people around you. It is also a process of exchanging ideas, thoughts, opinions,
knowledge, and data so that the message is received and understood with clarity and
purpose.

The tasks below are designed to develop the students’ communication ability and to
provide opportunities for students to employ English Language skills in both social
and academic contexts.

TASK 1: GROUP DISCUSSION 40%

1. In groups of three, source for information on the topic below.


“GLOBAL EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION PROMOTES UNIVERSAL
PEACE AND PROSPERITY” (THE BIG IDEA)
2. Based on the information collected, conduct a one-hour formal discussion in
your group. You may use the questions below to guide the flow of the
discussion: (Essential Questions)
i. How can we develop effective communication?
ii. Why is global effective communication important?
iii. How do we promote universal peace and prosperity?
iv. How can effective communication promote universal peace and
prosperity?
3. In the discussion, you should employ appropriate listening and speaking skills
to ensure effective communication.
4. Each group member should take about twenty minutes to present her part and
will be evaluated individually.
5. Record the forum and submit in the respective GC slot. Ensure the video is of
good quality and clear.

TASK 2: READING TEST (INDIVIDUAL WORK) 30%

1. In one hour, you are to sit for a reading test, which contains reading
comprehension questions (MCQ, short response questions, open response
questions). The questions are based on one reading passage.
2. Students are required to write the answers in the answer booklet (GOOGLE
DOC) provided and upload it on the respective GC slots.

TASK 3: NARRATIVE ESSAY (INDIVIDUAL WORK) 30%

1. Writing is a process that involves five distinct steps: pre-writing, drafting,


revision, editing and publishing.
2. Follow the steps mentioned above to produce a narrative essay of 300 words.
based on the quote below:

“To effectively communicate, we must realize that we are all different in the way
we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our
communication with others.” - Anthony Robbins

3. Publish the entire writing process (from pre-writing until publishing) on a google
site. You need to show all the five steps involved in the google site.
4. Submit the link of the google site in the respective slot in the google
classroom.

DETAILED PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

1. This continuous assessment package consists of THREE tasks, of which two


are individual tasks and one is a group task. You are to complete ALL tasks.
2. You are advised to discuss your work regularly with your lecturer to ensure
targets are met.
3. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time,
late submission will be dealt with severely.
4. ALL tasks in this coursework must be submitted via Google Classroom.
5. Plagiarism in any form is strictly prohibited. No duplication of task is allowed.
Students caught doing so will face penalties including failing this course. All
borrowed ideas must be acknowledged and properly cited using the APA
format. Each task should have references written on the last page of the
assignment.
6. Disciplinary action will be taken against students who violate the rules of
plagiarism in accordance with Act 174 Institutions of Education Disciplinary
Amendment 2012.
7. For the purpose of uniformity and consistency, the following conventions need
to be observed for written assignment:
 Font type : Arial
 Font size : 11
 Line spacing : 1.5

8. Use the cover page as uploaded in the class GC. Fill in ALL the particulars
required (name, index number, identity card number, group/unit, lecturer’s
name, subject name and code) accurately.
9. This continuous assessment package carries the weightage of 100%.
