SYNTHESIS

Mary Grace Florido completed an internship with Liege BDB Consumer Goods Trading where she gained valuable hands-on work experience. The internship challenged her mentally, socially, and physically as she took on new responsibilities like assisting with business registration forms, journalizing documents, and making bank deposits. She also enjoyed bonding with coworkers during an out-of-town company outing and lunch breaks with a friend from a neighboring office. While her laptop stopping working late in the internship created issues, overall the experience helped her professional and personal development.

If you would ask what my plot twist is in this year, it is this internship. For
two years, I had the same routine every day so I guess for a change, this is
better. It challenged me so much not just mentally but socially, and physically. I
have to be mentally present at all times so I’ll be able to respond correctly to my
supervisor. Socially, so we can have a good time talking ‘bout life in our spare
time, and physically because I bring my own equipment to work. I also get to
walk a lot every day, which I don’t get to do much back then.
When it came to work and applications, I learnt a lot. Ma'am Reegine made
sure that before assigning me a task, I understood what the documents were for,
and she thoroughly explained everything to me. I recall her explaining to me
on my first day how a business was registered to BIR form applications and its
filing dates. I also get to apply what I learned in school, such as journalizing and
writing in columnar. It brought me back to the time when I was still learning the
fundamentals or in my first year of college. The documents or files I assist them
with appear to be hard, but once you get the hang of it, they are simple and fun
to do.
Being at work makes me aware of my surroundings, as well as how I should
be aware of myself and the cleanliness of my workplace. I can joke with them
during breaks, but it should be the opposite when it comes to work. When I
have free time or when my task is completed, I always ask my supervisor if she
has anything else she would like me to do. I don't have much to do here from
time to time. So I kept myself busy by organizing their documents and cleaning
my desk. My supervisor and I went to BIR one time to file and pay our
company's ITR. I discovered that the procedure is simple.

Another thing they allow me to do is deposit money in a bank. I enjoy it
because I have no idea how it is done and it's a new experience for me. I felt
like a proper adult for a brief moment. They also trust me with their money,
which is used to pay their suppliers.
I had no idea how much I would love company outings. It was my first
trip out of town with people who weren't family or friends. My officemates
and I have just known each other for a few months, and one of them I met on
the same day because she's a WFH employee. Because I struggle from motion
sickness, I vomited often during our trip. I felt bad since I had caused them to
be worried about me and my parents at home. We went to Baguio, and our
boss took us to a lot of locations with beautiful scenery and delicious food. In
La Union, we also went to the beach. I am on my best behavior during those
three days. Because I was left alone with adults, I am proud of myself. My
social abilities were put to the test.
I commend myself for being so courageous and trying to work alone in
these corners of a room with people I had only met briefly. I express my
gratitude to a friend who also works alone on the floor below my office. We
ate lunch together as much as possible and used our 1-hour break to share our
feelings, troubles, and experiences.
I am devastated that my laptop suddenly stopped working since I bring
my own laptop to work. All of my files are there, and I was unable to back
them up completely. I only have a week till my internship ends, so I'm
hurrying to get things sorted. It wasn't simple, but this internship was highly
beneficial to my future development as a person and as a worker. They've
taught me a lot and given me hands-on experience in the office and on the
field. So many unexpected things have happened, and I must say that in those
three months, I have been very happy.
