Analytical Exposition

Definition:
Analytical exposition is a text that analyze (elaborates) the writer‘s idea about the
phenomenon surrounding. It is used to persuade the reader that the idea is important
matter, and to analyze the topic that the thesis/opinion is correct by developing arguments
to support it.

The Organization of the Text (Texts Structure):


1. Thesis : Introducing the topic and indicating the writer’s point of view (opinion).
2. Arguments : Explaining the argument to support the writer’s position (opinion). The
number of arguments may vary, but each argument must be supported
by evidence and explanation.
3. Reiteration : Restating the writer’s point of view (opinion) to strengthen the thesis.

The Social Function (Communicative purpose) of the Text:


To convince the readers or listeners about the topic (phenomenon) discussed in the text.

The Language Features Used in the Text:


▪ Using Simple Present Tense
▪ Using compound and complex sentence.
▪ Use word that link argument, such as firstly, secondly, and reasoning through
causal conjunction, such as in addition, furthermore, however, therefore.
▪ Use conjunction to make conclusion such as Therefore, my conclusion is …, In
conclusion …
