Lesson 2 Types of CAD Software

This document provides an overview of computer-aided design (CAD) software and hardware. It begins with an opening prayer. The lesson objectives are to identify different CAD software by provider and develop traits like creativity. It then reviews computer hardware components and operating systems. The main section defines CAD as software used by engineers to create 2D and 3D designs that can be visualized. It lists industries that use CAD and describes the benefits. The types of CAD software covered are 2D, 3D wireframe/surface modeling, solid modeling, and different collaboration modes. The document concludes by thanking students for listening.

OPENING PRAYER

Dear Lord and Father of all, Thank you for today.

Thank you for ways in which you provide us all.
For your protection and love we thank you.
Help us to focus our hearts and minds now on
what we are about to learn
Inspire us by your Holy Spirit as we listen and write.
Guide us by your eternal light as we discover more
about the world around us.
We ask all this in the name of Jesus.
AMEN
Lesson 2:
Operate CAD software and computer
hardware

Learning Objectives
1. identify the different CAD software according to software
provider;
2. develop traits such as ingenuity, resourcefulness, creativity,
independence and passion towards learning.

What is Computer Aided Design (CAD)?
- used by engineers, architects, and construction
managers
- CAD has replaced manual drafting. It helps users
creating designs in either 2D or 3D so that they can
visualize the construction.
What is Computer Aided Design?
used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D)
space; or curves, surfaces, and solids in three-dimensional
(3D) space.
What is Computer Aided Design?
Computer-aided design (CAD), also known
as computer-aided drafting and design
(CADD), is the use of computer systems to
assist in the creation, modification, and
analysis of a design.
CAD software is used to:

Increase the productivity

Improve the quality of design

Create a database for manufacturing

Computer Aided Design
CAD is also widely used to produce computer
animation for special effects in movies,
advertising, and technical manuals.
Types of CAD Software
Two-Dimensional
1. 2D CAD Computer Aided Design

• used for drawing, sketching, and

drafting conceptual designs.

• used for floor plan development,

building permit drawing, and
building inspection planning.
Types of CAD Software
Three-Dimensional
2. 3D CAD Computer Aided Design

• provides a platform for designing

3D objects.
• 3D solid modeling.
• This lets designers create objects
with length, width, and height,
allowing more accurate scaling
and visualization.
Types of CAD Software
3. 3D Wireframe and Surface
Modelling
• It is also used in 3D animation
for games and other
presentations.
• Surface modeling is widely used
in CAD (computer-aided design)
for illustrations and
architectural renderings.
• Wire-frame models they create skeleton
like models with lines and arcs.
Since they appear to be made of wires, and
everything in the background is visible.

• Surface models – unlike wire frames, these

models are created by joining 3D surfaces.
Since nothing in the background is visible,
the surface models are quite realistic.
Types of CAD Software
4. Solid Modelling
• most complicated of the CAD
technologies, because it simulates an
object internally and externally
• Solid models can be sectioned
(cut open) to reveal their internal
features, and they can be stress tested
as if they were physical entities in the
real world.
Types of CAD Software
5. Single-file-mode systems
• This type of CAD software allows only a single
user to work on a single file at a time.
Types of CAD Software
6. Referenced-file-mode systems

• In this type of CAD software, users can work on their

own files with the files of other users attached as a
background. This enables users to leverage other users'
work as background data.
Types of CAD Software
7. Collaborative-mode systems

• These CAD systems take the

referenced-mode system to the
next level. They allow a team of
users to collaboratively work
with each other's data and see
the changes other users make to
the data as they go.
That’s all for today!
