Doppler Effect
SOUND WAVES
Sound is produced when an object vibrates,
creating a pressure wave. This pressure wave
causes particles in the surrounding medium
(air, water, or solid) to have vibrational
motion. As the particles vibrate, they move

shift in the light's frequency. This Pictures explaination
is in a fashion similar (though not
identical) to other sorts of waves,
such as sound waves.

Diagram on Doppler effect in which the source of sound is stationary while observer is moving.
In the first case, as the observer approaches the source of sound , ( bus ) , frequency of sound waves
increases while wavelength decreases so you hear a loud sound. As the observer moves away from the
source of sound, the frequency of sound waves decreases and wavelength increase so, the loudness of
sound decreased.

In case 2, you may have noticed that the pitch of a police car siren seems higher as the police car approaches and lowers after the police car
passes and moves away. The sound waves produced by the siren travel through the air at a constant speed , regardless of the speed of the police car.
But as the police car approaches, each successive wave produced by the siren travels a shorter distance to your ears.
