6 I Intersubjectivity

This document discusses the concept of intersubjectivity. Intersubjectivity refers to how people interact with and influence each other through human relationships. It involves accepting differences among individuals, including disabilities, attitudes, and beliefs. The fundamental theme of intersubjectivity is love. Phenomenology studies consciousness from a first-person perspective, and no two people experience the world in exactly the same way due to different experiences and upbringings. Historically, those with disabilities faced discrimination and were not treated equally. Today, knowledge of intersubjectivity can help us cope with shared crises while remaining empathetic to others' varied experiences.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent
-John Donne
REFERS TO INTERHUMAN ENCOUNTER. IT IS
VIEWED AS HOW PEOPLE INTERACT WITH OTHERS
AND HOW OTHERS INFLUENCE THEM TO BECOME
SOMEONE.
THE KEY TERM IS ACCEPTANCE, WHICH
MEANS EMBRACING DIFFERENCES AND
DIVERSITY IN TERMS OF ATTITUDES,
SKILLS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL
ATTRIBUTES, AND EVEN CHOICES AND
SENSE OF DECISION IN LIFE.
IT IS ALSO ABOUT ACCEPTING PEOPLE IN
DIFFERENT WALKS LIFE . PEOPLE WHO MAY
NOT SHARE THE SAME VIEWS AND BELIEFS
AS THE OTHERS; PEOPLE WHO MAY LOOK
BEYOND ORDINARY, AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE
DISABILITIES.
Fundamental
Theme of
Intersubjectivity
LOVE IS THE FUNDAMENTAL
THEME IN INTERSUBJECTIVITY.
EDMUND HUSSERL,
ARGUES THAT
INTERHUMAN EXPERIENCE
IS AN EMPHATIC
EXPERIENCE, AS ONE PUTS
HERSELF/HIMSELF INTO
THE OTHER ONE'S SHOES.
PHENOMENOLOGY is the study
of structures of consciousness as
experienced from the first-person
point of view.
No two person are exactly alike, even
among identical twins. One is a by-
product of his/her experiences,
upbringing, environment, and society.
Diversity is nothing but an ordinary
phenomenon in the social system.
We all experience various types of
experience including perception,
imagination, thought, emotion, desire,
volition, and action. All these types of
experiences must be characterized as
conscious experience of a person which
is subjective/ first- person point of view.
Diversity makes a person human. It makes
the world a wonderful and fascinating
place to live in. In a basic level, one must
treat others with the same amount of
respect as he/she wants to be respected
himself/herself in order to live in a more
peaceful and harmonious world.
Focus of
Intersubjectivity
Early 20th century, discrimination was
prevalent to people with disabilities.
They were not treated equally as they
as they are viewed as persons who
lack something.
In the Republic of Plato the notion
that sick people are inferior are
magnified as that deformed infants
must be thrown away to a
“mysterious unknown place.”
The said notion results into great
discrimination to any person who has
disability. The isolation of PWD is intensified
and worsened through the strong sense of
ignorance and neglect, deep- seated belief in
superstitions, and poor social acceptance.
In our current time today. We face a different kind of
situation in which every one is experiencing the same
crisis but have different experiences of this crisis.
Knowledge of intersubjectivity can help us cope up
with our current status and at the same time help us
to be more empathetic to everyone facing the same
kind of crisis
