This scenario can be considered a “New Ethical Issue”. Because the Cloud system's presence
would have prevented this problem from occurring. As in this scenario one or more
unidentified hackers gained access to at least 100 celebrity's online accounts through their
mobile devices. Through the website 4chan, they posted the celebrities' personal photos online.
Which later raises several ethical, and social issues affecting digital technology and
cyberspace.
Example:
In 2014 and 2017 several celebrities accounts found unprotected and got hacked. With the
majority of celebrities using iPhones and other Apple devices, hackers went looking for
vulnerabilities in Apple's cloud storage system. What they found was that iPhones, iPads, and
laptops automatically backup photos and videos to their users' iCloud accounts. To access
those accounts requires an Apple ID and password. Many accounts’ information was leaked,
compromising phone numbers, user names, genders, and locations. 540 million records were
affected.
This is a related problem that emerged as a result of the adoption of cloud storage systems.
Therefore, I consider the scenario to be a New Ethical Issue.
I think the given scenario to be a "Old Ethical Issue." The ethical dilemma in this situation
involving the software was that it could malfunction and cause chemical weapons to be
deployed somewhere other than where they were intended. Additionally, the system can be
hacked and abused. Accidents could be caused by some systemic flaws. But I think these
problems can arise even if there isn't a computerized system.
Example: ValuJet aircraft 592 crashes in 1996, killing all 110 people on board as a result of an
unauthorized cargo of dangerous goods. The Federal Aviation Administration significantly
boosted enforcement of dangerous goods compliance following this event.
These cases demonstrate that mishaps have nonetheless happened when moving lethal
weapons without the use of computers. Therefore, in my opinion, the problem illustrated in the
given scenario.
Scenario 1-3: Digital piracy
In the given scenario, Harry Flick visits a website where a number of great movies are
available for free download. The films are copyrighted, but he's not sure if he's permitted to
download any of them.
I think the moral dilemma Harry faces in this given scenario to be a be new ethical problem.
Even before computers and other modern technologies, there was piracy. But this situation
highlights the problem with digital piracy. Since any file may be quickly copied in the current
digital era, this situation differs somewhat from earlier instances of piracy.
Therefore, this seems to me to be a "New Ethical Issue" because downloading digital media
from the internet would not be possible without the development of computer technology.
Below is a description of a digital piracy scenario.
To me, the given scenario appears to be a "Old Ethical Issue." The ethical question raised by
this situation is whether or not new technologies should be adopted because they are
eliminating jobs.
For instance, Technology has undoubtedly eliminated jobs in some industries, but Stewart and
his colleagues wonder whether these are positions we would actually want to keep.
Technology immediately replaces human muscle power, increasing output while decreasing
employment. The report notes that "agricultural was the first sector in the UK to face this
influence on any magnitude."
Agricultural laborers made for 6.6% of the workforce in England and Wales in 1871. Today,
the percentage has decreased by 95% to 0.2%. The census results also shed light on the effects
on employment in a formerly significant but now largely forgotten sector. In 1901, there were
200,000 individuals working in the laundry industry in England and Wales, which had a
population of 32.5 million.
