G. Cutting Table
Cutting table control knob (right side) Left side has been eliminated on newer
models1. Select a Reed you like to play on. This will become & “Model” reed and should be
one that you play well on and would like to duplicate. SAVE all of your good
playing Reeds.
2. Place the “model” reed on the right side of the cutting table on your Reedual
machine, and line it up to a proper line. See the drawing below to determine the
correct positions for the various sizes of single reeds.
3. The Reed being “cut” (an unplayable reed, a broken reed, or a reed that is being
“cut” out of a “blank” cane) is placed on the left side of the cutting table. Line it
up to a mark corresponding to the one being used by the “Model” reed. Make
certain that the reed tip is well shaped. If necessary, clip or trim the tip. Use the
plastic under liner for this reed. See *note below
* A plastic strip has been fastened to the left side of the cutting table (The side where the
teed being cut is placed) this plastic shield must ALWAYS be used under the reed as. a
Positive protective shield for the cutting table. Reedual has been calibrated carefully with
this plastic strip in its proper place. Position this shield with the reed you are cutting.
Place both shield and reed up to the line you are using. When changing set up to a
different size of reed, unfasten the plastic shield by lifting the scotch tape and move the
shield to its new position and fasten the tape to the cutting table.

which will rest on the table. This will cause the flat side and tip of the reed to
“hug” the surface when the clamp is tightened, thereby insuring an evenly cut tip.
USE CENTER LINE FOR ACCURATE PLACEMENT!
5. Turn Follower Control Knob until it is completely on and stopped so it can
travel no further, now back it off to the first “O” position. This is true “C” and will
exactly duplicate your “Mode!” reed on the right side of the table.
6. ‘Turn on the motor and begin slightly moving the cutting table from left to right
and right to left SLOWLY, As you slide the cutting table to and fro, tum the table
control knob to different positions thereby causing the entire surface of the reed to
becut. “CAUTION DON'T BE HEAVY HANDED AND PRESS IN
TOWARD THE CUTTING HEAD WITH THE SANDPAPER . LET THE
WEIGHT OF THE CUTTING TABLE DO THE WORK. KEEP YOUR
LEFT HAND AT YOUR SIDE, AND USE JUST YOUR RIGHT HAND.
‘Continue this sliding and rotating motion until all the wood that can be removed is
removed. Don’t cut a reed without rotating cutting table and sliding it horizontally.
An experienced operator can cut a reed in about 30 seconds. However, you will
require more time and patience in the beginning of your reed cutting career. The
reed will be finished when the cutting wheel stops throwing dust from all
positions of revolved cutting table.* Use a few extra strokes in the middle of the
