Excel Hands-on Activity Grade 5

ACTIVITY 1: ENTERING DATA


1. Enter the following data:
• In A1, type “Week1.”
• In the second row (A2 to H2), enter the following:
• A2: Days
• B2: Allowance
• C2: Food
• D2: Transportation
• E2: Project
• F2: Others
• G2: Total Exp.
• H2: Savings
• In A3, Type “Monday.”
• Select A3 and move your mouse pointer to the right bottom corner of cell A3. The mouse
will change to a thin cross (fill handle).
• Using the fill handle tool, drag the mouse to fill the cells A3:A9 with the days of the week
from Monday to Sunday.
• In cell A11, type “total.”

2. Adjust the width:


• Move the mouse pointer between column headings (B and C). The mouse pointer will
change into a double-headed arrow.
• Drag the mouse pointer to adjust the column width or double-click the mouse to auto-fit the
column width with its content.

3. Save your file:


• Save your file in your activity folder with the file name Activity 2-WeeklyBudget-
YourInitials.xlsx
• Click file > save as> type Activity1-StudentInfo-YourInitials>.xlsx

ACTIVITY 2: ENTERING FORMULA


1. Try to enter the formulas to compute for the “Total Exp.”
a. Monday Total expenses: In cell G3, type in “=C3+D3+E3+F3.” The formula should
return the total value equal to 85.
b. Tuesday total expenses: This time try to enter the formula “=C3+D4+E4+F4.” Use Point
and Click, separate each using + sign.
c. Wednesday Total Expenses: Enter the formula by inserting the “SUM” function to
compute the sum/total.
d. Thursday total expenses: Try to use the AutoSum button to automatically add up a
range of cells.
e. Continue to compute for the Total Exp. Of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (for the cells
G7, G8, and G9 respectively).

f. Before we continue, save the file click CTRL+S (for window user) or click file> save, or
click the mini disk at the upper left corner of the window.
g. Compute for the total allowance in B11 by entering the formula =SUM (B3:B9) or use
the method you find easier.
h. After entering the formula in B11, copy the formula from C11 to H11.
i. To check the formula copied in the cell, press F2
j. Save your work!
