Statement of purpose

INTRODUCTION

I am Jobanpreet kaur and I am residing in Amritsar and I have applied for the Bachelor of social
work in Institute of Health & Management.

ABOUT MY EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

I have done my secondary school certificate from Central Board in March 2019 with 77 %. I have
cleared my senior secondary school certificate from CBSE in April 2021 with 66%. then I did IELTS
on 27th Nov,2021 in which I scored 6.5 Bands .I got married with Mr. Prabhjot Singh (My spouse )on
23 rd March,2022 .He is well settled in India .as My main motive to pursue my higher studies in
Australia , My Parents & in-laws family also support my decision then I has decided to apply for
Institute of Health & Management for Bachelor of Social work which I believe will give a direction
to my goal of a successful and challenging career as a research professional at a premier institute
filled with excellent research facilities and academic activity. I think a Bachelor program will be an
ideal step I intend to pursue my Studies in Australia.

WHY CHOOSE AUSTRALIA?

Australia is currently the third most popular destination for international students in the English-
speaking world, behind the United States and the UK. Many international students choose to study
there because of the cultural diversity, friendly natives, and high quality of education. Schools and
employers all over the world recognize degrees from Australian schools.

Nevertheless, In comparison to countries such as the United States and the UK, the costs of tuition
and education in Australia are significantly less with higher level of safety. The benefit is not only
that international student are required to pay less, they also receive an education that is one of the
world’s finest. Australia has Cosmopolitan environment, has a wide multicultural environment my
peers will be Americans, Polish, Spanish, Greek so in Such a diverse population will make me feel
less like a stranger and I can easily make new friends. Courses offered by institutions in Australia,
from preparatory level to postgraduate programs, are flexible and equipped with global
perspective. In 2014, areas such as engineering, accounting and health sciences ranked highly in
the QS World University Rankings by Subject. Australian universities also receive good ratings for
teaching quality, research and graduate employment.

Apart from being a great place to get a first-rate education, Australia is also a fantastic place to live.
It provides a welcoming and multicultural society with a population that originates from around
200 countries. Universities in Australia are monitored closely to ensure that they uphold the
highest standards of teaching, learning and research. The quality of Australian universities and
colleges is assessed by the ASQA.
After completion of my Bachelor’s course, I would experience post-study work part in Australia
under my PSW visa, which not only give me a chance to hold international work experience, but
also kick-start my career and allow me to have an easy transition into industry.

WHY NOT INDIA:

There are a very few institutions in India that offer Bachelor degree in social work. Also, there is a
lack of practical knowledge in the field of arts and this is a major drawback of Indian educational
system. Ever increasing competition for seats in good colleges and on top of that the seats have
reservation system too. And if it’s not top institute of India then the quality of education in State
University recognized institutes is average and the job opportunities followed by courses from such
institutions are very limited and sub standard.
Most foreign universities are very flexible, and I can choose from a range of subjects. A student can
choose to do dual major, minor and free elective courses. Studying abroad improves one’s
personality, communication skills, social contacts, and at the same time one can experience a
different quality of life.

Social Work is a challenging, crucial, and rewarding profession. It means committing to everyday
challenges that enable to positively impact the lives of the most vulnerable people in our society.
Social work is a unique profession rich with meaning, action, and the power to make a difference.
Social workers pull communities together, help individuals and families find solutions, advance
changes in social policy, promote social justice, and foster human and global well-being. This can
mean providing direct services to people in their homes or places of work, helping people through
social service organizations. Social workers help clients deal not only with how they feel about a
situation but also with what they can do about it.
I am prepared to start the next chapter of my life enrolled in IHM for bachelor of Social Work
program. Pursuing a degree in social work will afford me the opportunity to meet people I never
would have met otherwise. Communicating, collaborating, and interacting with others is the fastest
way to expanding the horizons. Bachelor of Social Work explores social care, health and wellness
programs and initiatives that seek to locate and create systems and relationships that are
preventative and educative in nature.

During Bachelor, I will gain a strong base in generalist clinical social work practice as well as
specialized study. The course will provide skills in areas of policy, research, clinical and community
based practice. The course is accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
and is regarded as a qualifying Bachelor's course.

The job opportunities are always high in the medical field. BSW pass outs with specialization in the
medical field can work in hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.

Substance abuse is another area where social workers are high in demand. BSW graduates can
work in substance abuse areas like rehabilitation centers, prisons, private practices, and for non-
profit organizations. Social work graduates help in the treatment and rehabilitation of people
addicted to drugs and other negative emotions like anger and mood swings.

CAREER OUTCOMES AND COST BENEFITS IN MY HOME COUNTRY

After pursuing a Bachelor degree in social work, one can apply for jobs in various fields. BSW
holders can also work for child welfare organizations where they can serve the children who are
neglected by parents or children from low-income families.

Another area where social workers can find jobs is Social school work. This is one of the most
common areas of social work.BSW graduate can work as a counselor and offer guidance to
students and address their issues such as behavioral programs, sexual education, health education,
truancy prevention programs, crisis intervention and communication between teachers, parents
and students.

Social work organizations and NGOs will need to work on new projects to tackle all such problems
due to rising economy which will ultimately lead to the creation of new jobs in the field of social
work. Social worker graduates can work as administrators, researchers, policymakers and planners.
Policymakers and policy advocates work with the state and central government to set up publicly
funded programs to address the issues such as poverty, child abuse, violence, homelessness,
mental health and other issues.

Social workers can also work as counselors within a clinical specialty or a specific community. They
can also work for rehabilitation centers as counselors for addressing the drug addicts. Social
workers having a Bachelor degree can also apply for teaching jobs in colleges and universities.
Bachelor degree holders can also apply for administrative and supervisory positions in government
agencies and corporate houses.
India is a growing economy and growth impacts the population of a country in many ways. In a
growing economy, society will have to face new problems such as child labor, illiteracy, migrant
labor, urban poverty, AIDS and crime against women. The salary may range from 50,000- 1, 00,000
per month while if I have done some similar course from India I would end up getting job of barely
15-25,000 per month.

REASONS FOR RETURNING HOME COUNTRY AND FAMILY TIES

India is one of the rapidly growing as well as developing countries in the world. Many opportunities
are arising in almost each and every field of work. Thus, settling a career in the desired field in India
is not much difficult if one has the required skills and degree. After earning an international degree
from your university I will fulfil all the requirements of various job profiles in India. Therefore to
avail career secured opportunities I will return back to my home country and will build my future in
close proximity to my loved ones who are my emotional support system. My family and My In laws
family are well settled financially here and my father is the main pillar of our family. He is
Agriculturist & Business Income earns around 8,34,130 lacs per annum (according to the recent
ITR).My Mother is homemaker .My father-in -law is also my sponsor , he is retired from CIVIL
JUDGE income having INR 2,97,440 as per ITR’s .In my decision to study abroad my Spouse happily
agreed and supported me in my decision. They will sponsor my education as well as all the living
expenses in Australia and there will be no delay in depositing the tuition fee to the University.

My parents & In -laws also have good number of FDR’s in the bank which is worth
INR 53,40,313 and despite this there are immovable assets that can also be used. The biggest
achievement is the degree itself from Australia, which is highly valued and respected in my home
country. Different opportunities will be created after the successful completion of the course. As
India is a developing country, with lots of career oriented opportunities where I can pursue job in
different era in my country.

SCOPE OF BACHELOR OF SOCIAL WORK IN INDIA

BSW graduates is in demand for every area of recruitment, such as in NGOs, Human Resource
Management, Education, Rehab Centres, Welfare, Old age home, clinics, community, health care
centres, hospitals, private firms, and much more.  Pursuing a career in Social Work is demanding,
there is no doubt about that, however, the benefits are witnessing society grow and develop in an
ever-changing world we live in. I can live a standard life with this sum of income along with my. The
Initial earnings that I can have per year can range between 3lacs-7lacs per annum, which is enough
to live a quality life with all the comforts and necessities.

ACCOMMODATION DETAILS

This is my first time that I am applying for a visa so I do not have immigration history. I have
considered all my living as well as educational expenses that I would have during my stay in
Australia. The country has a large accommodation options for international students and according
to my research, rental properties and rooms are easy to find and they are less expensive than the
university accommodations. To reduce my transportation charges I will preferably have a shared
accommodation near the university which will also aid me with the rent and distribution of
responsibilities during my stay. The total living expenditure would be around $1,628 which

STUDENT VISA CONDITIONS

I have applied for the study visa to study under subclass 500 for my desired course in Australia. I
am fully aware of all obligations under this visa and I will obey them all during my stay in Australia.
The Conditions of student visa are:
 I cannot work more than 40 hours per fortnight during my study time.
 I can work full time during semester break/ vacations but those vacations must be
recognized by the university.
 I must remain enrolled in my registered course and should complete the course within the
given time period.
 After reaching Australia, I am not allowed to change my Education provider (University) and
applied course.
 I must maintain adequate arrangements for health insurance during my stay in Australia,
i.e.(OSHC).
 I should have sufficient financial capacity to support my study and stay in Australia.
 I am not supposed to indulge in any kind of illegal activity.
 I have to maintain a full time enrollment load during my studies and achieve satisfactory
academic performance.
 I must inform my education provider about the address where I live in Australia within
seven days of arriving in Australia and I should inform my educational provider in case of any
change in my address.
