This column is produced by the Financial Planning Association and provided by Al Procaccino, a member of FPA and Certified Financial Planner with Castle Financial www.castlefinancial.com . People who look to their employers for nothing more than a weekly paycheck and basic health care insurance are missing the boat. It makes the most sense to ask a future employer about benefits before you agree to come to work. But even if you have been working for the same company for years, it's never too late to go to human resources to make sure you're getting the most mileage out of your current benefits and maybe pick up a new perk or two. See if you have the following options available, and check with your tax professional or a financial adviser before you make a selection: Look at health savings accounts: If your employer has

Photo Sites Shedding Light on Creative E-Commerce
(NUI) - While many have taken up photography as a fun hobby over the years, today's high-tech world has taken the once simple pastime to an entirely new level. Elaine Hoffman, a full-time therapist and amateur photographer, frequently uses online photo services to create greeting cards for friends from her favorite collections of floral images. But until recently, she'd never considered a second career in greeting card design. "My friends kept saying, 'You should sell these!' So when I found a Web site that allowed me to set up my own store, I thought I'd give it a shot," Hoffman said. Millions of digital photographers like Hoffman have discovered the benefits of online photo services as a way to share images and create products like greeting cards and books. According to a report released by InfoTrends Research Group, photo sites generated more than $400 million in more users with its offerings of customizable photo products such as cards, calendars and gifts but above all, allowing regular consumers to sell these products by themselves with their own photos and designs. "I was surprised by how easy it was to start selling my work," Hoffman said. "I'm not getting rich off of it yet, but it's great to make some extra cash while doing something I love." As photo sites look to combine e-commerce with selfpublishing, this new consumerdriven marketplace is opening doors for amateurs and professionals alike. Thanks to new advances online, children's book authors may start publishing their ideas without agents, novelists may sell their work without fees and shutterbugs can start turning a profit on their favorite snapshots. This rise in the popularity of digital photography has spawned many new Web sites that go beyond sharing photos in addition allowing users to set up their own stores. Spring Essentials From the Stylist
(NUI) - It's time to peel off those itchy wool sweaters, ladies, and jump into spring style with the ultimate guide to this year's essentials from Celebrity Stylist Mark-Alan Harmon and the frugal fashionista shopping haven, Prime Outlets. According to Harmon, style sensei to Hollywood elite, bringing great style into your wardrobe can be as simple as adding a few key pieces each season. "Dressing well can be easy and affordable; you just need to know what to look for and how to bring it into your wardrobe," explains Harmon. Another key factor, he notes, is knowing where to go to get the look, citing the outlets as the place to experiment with trends and get direct access to some of the world's most fashionable, trend-defining clothing. Known as the destination for value-minded fashionistas, Prime Outlets features a compelling collection of designer and name-brand retailers offering everyday savings of 25 to 65 percent off full retail prices, including style icons kate spade, Coach Factory and Salvatore Ferragamo. Prime Outlets suggests the following spring essentials from the stylist to help create a look straight off the runway: 1. Be Bold with Color Trade in all that black this spring is all about bright colors! Add a splash of color to any outfit with a violet blazer, a pair of blue flats or a yellow clutch. 2. Boy Meets Girl - Add vests, V-neck sweaters and high-waisted trousers to your closet this spring as menswear makes its way into women's fashions. This season is all about the fitted, tailored, menswearinspired look. Sheer Indulgence - Layer translucent fabrics over camisoles or under jackets to capture a soft, feminine look. Follow the trend with blouses and dresses layered with luminous, pale-colored materials and add iridescent accessories. Best Dressed The absolute spring trend is the return of the dress. Look for the classic, sleeveless shift, stylish 5. frocks with ruffled accents, flowing floral prints and pronounced patterns, along with the essential, button-down shirtdress. In the Trenches - Stay cozy, yet chic, on cool days with the must-have item of the season - a trendy trench coat. Whether yellow, green or blue, a colored trench coat is a crucial element in every fashionista's wardrobe and a great way to make a bold entrance. 3.

Cook until browned and transfer to plate. In same skillet, add chili oil. Cook onion and celery over high heat, stirring constantly, until onion is golden and softened, about 3 minutes. Add in apples, broth, vinegar and soy sauce. Bring just to boil; stir in chicken and cook 2 minutes. In small bowl, whisk together corn starch with 1 tbsp water. Stir into sauce and let thicken slightly. Serve immediately over steamed rice. *Variety tip: For best results use Empire, Crispin, Cortland or Idared apples.

Bring 2 cups of water to a boil (or use very hot tap water). Turn off heat and immerse rice noodles in hot water for 3-5 minutes until noodles are soft, cooked through but still firm and al dente, not mushy. Rinse with cold water for 30 seconds. Drain well and set aside. Heat 1 Tbsp of oil in a frying pan, scramble egg, and set aside. Heat 2 Tbsp of oil in a frying pan. Stir fry chicken, shrimp, or vegetable for 1 minute. In a serving bowl, combine the lettuce with the cheese, bacon, capers and croutons. Spritz liberally with Hellmann's Simply Caesar, tossing well to coat. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Divide salad evenly among four plates and top with grilled shrimp.

Heartworm:
Is Your Dog at Risk?
(NC) - Does your dog love the outdoors? She's in good company. From visits to offleash parks, to frenzied splashes in ponds, 90 percent of Americans take their dogs outside on a regular basis. Unfortunately, being outside also comes with health risks like heartworm disease. Hundreds of dogs are infected each year. Country dogs, suburban dogs, even city dogs are at risk. Why? Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes. One bite from an infected mosquito is enough to transmit the disease to your dog. Wild animals can become infected and turn into heartworm reservoirs for mosquitoes, leading to a constant risk of infection for your dog. And, since heartworms are not readily visible the way ticks and fleas are, you may not even know your dog is sick. Symptoms often don't appear for six months - when the parasites arrive in the dog's heart and begin reproducing. Your dog may look fine and you may never see worms, but your dog may still be infected. Even if your veterinarian deworms your dog annually, this is not a reliable protection. Not all deworming products protect against both gastrointestinal worms and heartworms. Left untreated, heartworms can persist in your dog for up to seven years, causing severe damage to the heart, lungs, liver, and may eventually cause death. So what can you do? Be sure your dog is healthy. Ask your veterinarian to perform a simple blood test each year. Think prevention. Highly effective preventative treatments such as Revolution are available from your veterinarian. They are generally given monthly when mosquitoes may be present. Talk to your veterinarian about preventative heartworm medications that are easy to administer and will protect your dog from heartworm disease. (NC)-Imagine a floor that's as easy to move as furniture. Years ago this would have been impossible. Once you chose a floor, it would be yours for decades, like it or not. Times have changed. Recent advancements have improved floor joints to the point where un-installing a floor is not only possible, it's an added benefit for homeowners. A new generation of hardsurface flooring, referred to as "smart floors," are just that kind of breakthrough. Available in hardwood, cork and laminate, these floors are high quality, engineered floors known for their stunning appearance, excellent performance, easy installation and convenient re-use. Many homeowners install laminate floors in high-traffic and high-use spaces. The floor stands

(NUI) - Early spring is the ideal time to go through a detoxification program. This is when our body needs it most and it is a good way to kick-start any weight-loss you may need.
(NUI) - Many of our troops returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are still facing a battle - one against traumatic brain injury (TBI). Thousands of injured service members and veterans are returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan with hopes of transitioning into successful civilian life. For many of these individuals, gaps and barriers to health care, job training and employment, housing, recreation and transportation limit their ability to fully participate in family and community life. They are struggling, bound to a system that is itself stressed and often illequipped to meet their needs. TBI is the signature wound of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Department of Defense figures cite that one in every nine American deployed soldiers to Iraq suffers a traumatic brain injury. TBI is caused by exposure to blast waves from explosive devices. Some of the tell-tale signs include: headaches, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, slowness in thinking and communicating, mood changes, ringing in the ears and other symptoms that can significantly disrupt relationships and undermine the potential for successful reintegration into civilian life. Easter Seals has stepped up to offer help and hope for veterans with TBI. For nearly 90 years, they have been providing and advocating for services that change the lives of people living with disabilities and their families. Easter Seals is the nation's leading non-profit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental and physical disabilities, mental health issues and other special needs. With a generous grant from the Ludy Family Foundation, Easter Seals launched the Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury Project. With additional funding from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Easter Seals is significantly enhancing outreach efforts and augmenting the existing program to reach veterans wherever they live. The program offers returning veterans with TBI the Posit Science Brain Fitness Program an in-home, computer-based cognitive rehabilitation program and provides participants and their families with other essential Easter Seals supports and services. Serves 4 16 1 tbsp 1/3 cup 1 clove 2-1/2 cups 3/4 cup 2 tbsp 2 tbsp 3 cups Frozen Chicken Nuggets Olive Oil Onion, finely chopped Garlic, minced Prepared Pasta Sauce Mozzarella Cheese, shredded Parmesan Cheese, grated Parsley, finely chopped Penne Pasta
Prepare the chicken nuggets according to package directions. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a medium saucepan set over medium heat. Cook the onions and garlic for about 5 minutes or until soft and fragrant. Stir in the pasta sauce and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Toss the mozzarella with the Parmesan and parsley. Remove the cooked nuggets from the oven. Top each nugget with a spoonful of sauce and sprinkle with a little of the mozzarella mixture. Return the nuggets to the oven; bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Meanwhile, cook the penne according to the package directions. Drain well. Toss hot penne with the remaining pasta sauce and any remaining mozzarella mixture. Serve with the mini chicken Parmesan.
Trim fat from pork, and cut into 2-inch cubes. Stir together dry seasonings in a small bowl, and sprinkle over pork, turning to coat all sides. Place tomatoes, lime juice, one onion and one clove of garlic into a large slow cooker, and top with pork and raisins. Cover and cook on high for five hours or on low for ten hours. Remove meat from slow cooker with a slotted spoon, and place in a large bowl to keep warm. Pour juices from slow cooker into a medium saucepan. Add the remaining onion, garlic and dried pepper to saucepan, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Let cool slightly, then puree in a blender or food processor. Shred pork using two forks, and stir in half the sauce. Spoon into tortillas, if desired, and serve with avocado, cilantro and remaining sauce.
Cut avocado lengthwise around the pit, and twist halves to separate. Strike pit with a knife blade, and pull to remove. Scoop out flesh with a spoon, and place in a blender. Add sour cream, cream cheese, chilies and chili liquid, and blend until smooth, adding a little more liquid if mixture seems too thick. Transfer to a serving bowl, and garnish with sliced olives if desired. Cover and refrigerate until serving time. Serve with tortilla chips, crackers or raw vegetables.

DUDE RANCHES:
A GREEN VACATION CHOICE FOR YOUR FAMILY
(ARA) As more people are becoming aware of environmental issues, vacationing green is a growing travel trend. Families are seeking vacation options that offer activities that respect the earth, and experiences that create cherished memories and a renewed connection to nature. Dude Ranches in our association are environmentally kind and a great way to bring your family closer on your next vacation, says Colleen Hodson of The Dude Ranch Association, an organization that represents over 100 ranches in the western United States and Canada. People come to enjoy the outdoors, have an adventure and relax in nature. After they leave, they often have a renewed appreciation for the environment. So what is it like to vacation on a dude ranch? Imagine cool, fresh mountain air, riding a trail on your trusted horse, participating in a cattle drive during a beautiful sunset, and hearing the dinner bell call you to a delicious meal. And this is just a start; many ranches offer spas, rafting, fishing, hunting, and special adult and childrens programs. If this sounds like a vacation you might be interested in, there are options for every budget. Plus, many ranches participate in activities that help preserve the environment that they rely on so you can feel good about your trip. For example, Rocking Z Ranch in Montana uses a stationary diesel motor that is powered by recycled vegetable oil to pump water for irrigation. This worked so well, the ranch took the idea one step further by using the vegetable oil to make biodiesel after taking out the fatty acids. They use this to run the tractors, loaders, an excavator, dozer and diesel pickup during the summer months. Coffee Creek Ranch in California respects the environment by not spraying their fruit trees with any chemical pesticides. And like many hotels and travel establishments, you have the option to get fresh towels every day or hang them up and reuse them as a way to conserve water. Recycling is another aspect that dude ranches are embracing. Keep in mind, with some ranches being far from major cities where a recycling program might exist, its a bit harder than simply putting items in a bin and putting it at the end of the driveway every week. Wilderness Trails Ranch in Colorado collects bottles, cans, plastic and paper from the approximately 38 guests and 30 staff that stay at the ranch each week and loads a large trailer to take into town 30 miles away. Successful ranching depends on a positive relationship with the earth, therefore ranchers know that they need to treat it with care. This relationship influences a visitors experience at a dude ranch and often brings them a deeper appreciation for the environment in which they live, adds Hodson. A ranch offers activities for the whole family. Maybe your daughter loves horses and has always dreamed of lopping across a grassy meadow, or your son wants to learn how to rope a steer. While your wife enjoys some time in the spa, why not try some fly fishing? Then you better rest up so you can all go whitewater rafting the next day. So if you are looking for a vacation that will leave your family with memories to last a lifetime and a closer relationship with Mother Nature then a vacation at Wilderness Trails Ranch, Coffee Creek Ranch or The Rocking Z Ranch are the destinations you are looking for. For more information about vacations where your family can embrace the great outdoors visit www.guestranch.com.
