Introduction
Health is made up of two thirds hygiene. Although this adage by an
unidentified author lacks a solid scientific foundation, it is still
incredibly poignant and current. When trying to maintain the best
possible appearance and general health, hygiene and grooming are
two of the most crucial factors that one must pay attention to. This
study will concentrate on cleanliness and grooming, providing not
only definitions of the terms used to describe them but also a
broad framework that can be used to direct your hygiene practices.
Enjoy and stay informed.
Personal
Hygiene
Personal hygiene refers to all the everyday habits,
from getting up in the morning to going to bed, that
must be followed in order to safeguard and keep
good health. It has never been more crucial to
practice good personal hygiene than it is now, given
the rapid spread of viral illnesses. As a result, we urge
that you wash your hands, brush your teeth at least
twice a day, and take a bath at least twice daily.
Personal Hygiene Practices
Terms Related to
Personal Hygiene
Sanitation: Sanitation refers to the act of making something free of germs as
by sterilizing. There are several things that are apart of our daily routine that
are classified as sanitization that we don’t even think much about. This
includes:
• cleaning your body every day.
• washing your hands with soap after going to the toilet.
• brushing your teeth twice a day.
• covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when sneezing or coughing.
• washing your hands after handling pets and other animals
Bathe
Bathing refers to the act of cleansing
the entire body, this is achieved by
scrubbing the body with soap and
water which removes dirt and other
microorganisms from the skin.
Firstly,briefly rinse your body with
water only.Once that is done use a
washcloth(a rag) to apply soap to your
body.Start from the neck and
shoulders then wash all the way down
to the legs and toes.It is also
recommended that the hair be washed
every two to three days.
Health
In the conventional sense,health
refers to a state of wellbeing that
is free from
disease.However,health actually
encompasses a state of complete
physical, mental and social
well-being and is not merely the
absence of disease.
Personal Care

Personal care means anything done for

you that's of a personal nature. This
may include: personal hygiene –
bathing, showering, hair washing,
shaving, oral hygiene and nail care.
continence management – toileting,
skin care, incontinence laundry and
bed changing.
Cleanliness
Cleanliness refers to the practice of keeping oneself or
one's surroundings clean.Whereas previously we
would have mainly focused on hygiene in the personal
perspective,cleanliness also ecompasses the
environment a person resides in.Cleaning and one's
personal space regularly is essential because living in a
dirty space can cause allergies, skin infections, and
severe respiratory problems.Common examples of
cleanliness include:
• Washing clothes
• Washing Dishes
• Sweeping a room
• Changing your bed sheets.
Exercise
While you might hear the word "hygiene" and immediately think of
washing your hands, the term actually refers to any practice that
preserves a sense of health and well-being. As far as total-body
hygiene goes, exercise is one of the best things you can do to stay
healthy, as long as you get in the habit of cleanliness. Exercise refers to
any activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve
health and fitness.
It is recommended that the average adult engage in at least 150 minutes
of cardiovascular exercise per week.
Diet
Diet refers to the food and drink
consumed by an individual or
group.A well-balanced diet supplies
the nutrients necessary for good
health, but depending on the type of
food consumed,and the quantities of
those food consumed,then one’s
hygiene is also impacted.A poor diet
can interfere with a person's
hormonal production which can
increase the risk of bad breath,
dental decay and even body odor.
Grooming
Grooming refers to all the
things that one does in
order to maintain a
clean,neat and orderly
appearance.
Dressing
This refers to the capacity to determine
the proper clothing for a given
situation. Typically, this alludes to the
dichotomy between casual and formal
attire.
Coordination
Coordination refers to the act of
organizing different elements to
allow them to work together
effectively.In grooming coordination
refers to one's ability to choose
clothes of designs and colors that
not only match well with each
other,but also complement the
complexion and body composition
of the wearer.
Prepping

This refers to the act of making

something ready in advance.To be
properly groomed on must have
clothes and accessories prepared in
advance.For example for a formal
setting,clothes must be cleaned and
ironed in advanced.
Fitting
Well-fitted clothes refers to clothes
that closest match the shape of
one’s body,while also allowing for
space to move freely and
comfortably,but no so loose fitting
as to add bulk to ones frame.
The Importance of Personal Hygiene and
Grooming for the Total Look
While not synonymous, grooming and personal hygiene are two concepts that
are quite closely related. Together, they help create the total look. Clothing, hair,
cleanliness, and general appearance all contribute to one's overall appearance.
Grooming is typically viewed as the only component determining the overall
appearance.
This is necessary because much of what is seen on a person is the consequence
of grooming.
One must therefore be well-groomed in order to acquire the overall look.
This calls for properly tailored and coordinated clothing, as well as
well-maintained hair and nails.
Personal hygiene, on the other hand, is a crucial but frequently ignored aspect
of one's overall appearance. One must be tidy and in good physical condition
in order to get the "overall look." Even with flawlessly styled clothing, poor
personal hygiene detracts from the overall appearance. If one hasn't showered
or cleaned their teeth and thus smells bad, what use is it to be dressed in
appropriately prepared attire?
The necessity of those two components working in concert is reflected with
how people will perceive you.People typically prefer to interact socially,
whether on a personal or professional level, with those who maintain good
personal hygiene and grooming habits. Professionals are more likely to choose
a candidate who may be less qualified for a position if their look is polished
and elegant than they are to choose a candidate who is more qualified but
appears untidy.
Personal relationships also receive benefit from individuals practicing good
personal hygiene. For instance, people are more receptive to spending time in
close contact with others who do not give off offensive bodily odors, or have
bad breath.
The Role of the
Elements of
Design When
Adorning Oneself
The four main elements of design are
line, shape, color, texture and pattern.
Designers use these tools to create
harmonious designs.
Lines
There are three types of lines: straight,
curved, and jagged in fashion. Line can refer to
structural lines such as seam lines or decorative
lines. straight lines tend to be seen as strong OR
formal and curved lines suggest the lines of
nature and are softer and more feminine.
Lines make the eyes twist and control our brain
so that our eyes follow and fix on the design.
While a narrow line suggests solidity and
stability in one's character, a thick line
communicates strength and awareness. We
frequently observe that formal shirts have
straight, even vertical lines instead of horizontal
ones since the latter turn the garment casual
and make the wearer appear less serious.
Form/Shape also known
as silhouette
Color
Color has three components: hue,
saturation, and value. Pure colors
are referred to by hue, brightness or
dullness of a color is referred to by
saturation or intensity, and lightness
or darkness of a color is referred to
by value.
A monochromatic color scheme is all
shades of the same hue.
Complimentary
 A complementary color scheme
uses two colors that are opposite
each other on the color wheel.
 An Analogous
Scheme

An analogous scheme uses

three colors side by side on
the wheel.
Triatic Scheme
A triatic scheme uses three colors
that are equidistant on the wheel this
is easier and more appealing if the
colors are muted otherwise it can be
too much.
Texture
The aspect of design known as texture is
connected to the surface of shapes and forms.
Tactile texture is that which can be felt,
whereas visual texture is that which can only
be viewed on a flat surface.
A contrast in texture offers visual interest as
well as tactile interest. Smooth matte textures
make spaces look smaller while rough or
sparkly textures make areas look wider.
Texture added around the neckline and bust line
can be very flattering but you might not want
to add a heavily textured belt as it would add
visual weight to the waist.
Pattern
Patterns, usually referred to as prints, have
a similar effect to texture in that they
enhance visual volume and can also offer
personality. Because prints capture the eye
and are positioned where they wish to
draw attention to balance out the physique,
they might be feminine, conservative, bold,
or gentle. While mixing different patterns
might be entertaining, mixing prints and
solids is a safe bet.
