Reflection paper: "Kuwentong Viral: Pagtugon sa mga karaniwang sakit sa komunidad"
The webinar titled "Kuwentong Viral: Pagtugon sa mga karaniwang sakit sa komunidad"
talked about the most common disease a community experiences or acquire and what are the
ways we can do to alleviate/treat it.
The guest speaker who is Dr. Giuzeppe Edrei V. Meimban shares his knowledge with us
which is very helpful to us student nurses as well as to other listeners in the webinar. His
presentation titled "Lagnat me not" is not entirely all about fever but also some information on
cough relating it to COVID-19. As student nurses, we already have some background
knowledge about this but with the new insight of Dr. Meimban, I still gain new learnings and he
also explains the concept clear and concise. Dr. Meimban differentiates the signs and symptoms
of COVID-19, dengue, pneumonia, etc. because all of them present fever so it is really hard to
determine what disease a person's currently experiencing. He emphasized that whenever we
are not feeling good or think we are sick, as much as possible we should already get checkups
with the healthcare provider to prevent it from progressing and achieve a quality of life. Aside
from that, I realize that we really should look out for our health because sometimes we people
tend to ignore if we're feeling unwell thinking that we normally experience it etc. We didn't know
that it might be a danger sign already for more serious diseases. One thing I appreciate from Dr.
Meimban’s presentation is that he added some frequently asked questions in the last part which
I think is constructive. It is like a summarize version of the things we need to learn and
remember. Dr. Meimban explains (in the last part) some of the misinformation or the
“paniniwala” of the people on how they view COVID-19 and its treatment. From there, it
highlighted if this “specific info” is recommended by the healthcare providers or recommended
against. For example, my mother is one of the people who believed that Lagundi or vitex
negundo can be used as an adjunctive treatment for COVID-19 infection. With this webinar, I
learned that there is really no evidence that we can use Lagundi as a treatment for COVID-19
infection.
On a final note, It is evidently shown that this webinar clearly achieves its objectives as it
provides factual information and it is also entertaining overall.
