improved since the outbreak of the global epidemic "COVID 19." Being of great assistance to
every household, allowing people to go about their daily lives and even entertain themselves
while in the midst of a debilitating disease. But how did it all begin, and how did it continue to
evolve into what we now know? This essay aims to provide insight into the differences
between the internet in the past and now.
The Internet was founded in 1962 on the proposal of MIT computer scientist J.C.R Licklidder
for a global computer network, which was later shared with colleagues in the United States
Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) which was later to be
known as ARPANET’ worked by Leonard Kleinrock, Thomas Merrill and Lawrence G.
Roberts. In 1973, Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf collaborated to develop the Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for connecting multiple networks. And for the 3
decades the internet evolved, resulting in more advanced technology such as an
inexpensive network using dial-up phone lines, the development of hypertext markup
language or known as HTML, and URL or uniform resource locator, which led to the birth of
the World Wide Web and Google, etc with the help and work of the thousand of
collaborators.
Many things have changed in people's lives as a result of this evolution, for example the
convenience of people's everyday activities, one of which includes sites like Yahoo,
webcrawler, and many other positive outcomes that have improved life and did result in
people's productivity. It also contributed to the improvement of school quality, in addition to
social and economic development by introducing opportunities to communicate and
socialize, new business models and industries, and more efficient ways for firms and
workers to operate.
Furthermore, the internet has negative effects on people, such as those who do not have
access to the internet, which may cause them to fall behind other people, but even if this has
a positive effect on others, it can still be negative for others. One example is people taking
the internet for granted by spending more time playing online games rather than studying,
which continues to be a problem for some.
To summarize, despite amazing advancements over the years and considering the
advancement of the internet in the future, we humans must still remain responsible in every
act we accomplish and be more cautious in every development we make. Considering the
importance of the internet in our daily lives and the events taking place around the world.
