General Biology

This document contains information about Simon Duallo's general biology class. It includes 3 activities about geological time scales and periods, matching important biological events to eras and periods, and additional information about oxygen rise and global temperature changes. The assessment at the end tests knowledge with multiple choice questions.

General Biology

Name: Simon Duallo

Section: 11 STEM - EINSTEIN

Activity 1.

a. Radiation measurement, stratigraphic superposition, the Foss Record, and a combination of the
above methods.
b. due to a scarcity of information and accessibility
c. Eons, eras, periods, epochs, and ages make up the geologic time scale.

Activity 2:

1. Approximately 35 billion years.

2. 82.6 percent, or 83 percent, of the time on Earth has passed without life.
3. Our ancestors have been around for approximately 6 million years.
4. Dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago, after lived on the planet for 165 million years.
5. No. After the dinosaurs died out, it took roughly 65 million years for humans to come on the
planet.
6. Due to widespread extinction, scientists determine when an era begins and ends.
7. A geological time scale is a system that uses chronological time to link geological strata or
events.

Activity 3

1. First vascular land Paleozoic Era Ordovician period

2. Jawed fish diversity Paleozoic Era Ordovician period

3. Evolution of humans Holocene Paleolithic period

4. First Chordates Paleozoic Era Cambrian period

5. Mammals Diversity Cenozoic Era Tertiary Period

6. First Primates Mesozoic Era Cretaceous Period

7. Dinosaur’s Diversity Mesozoic Era Cretaceous Period

8. Major extinction of Paleozoic Era Permian Period

10. First flowering Plant Mesozoic Era Cretaceous Period

Additional Activities.

1. According to some writers, the rise of oxygen around 2,970-2,950 million years ago was caused
by explosive volcanic activity, a change in the reduction oxidation state of volcanic gases,
glaciation, and the deposition of banded iron formations.

2. The average surface temperature of the Earth has grown by around 1.D.F. over the previous
century, according to a network of ground-based and ocean-based locations. The eleven hottest
years on record have all occurred since 1980, with lags being the warmest on record.
