Emotional Self (Inside Out)

A. Make a reflection paper about the movie.

Every film is shown to have our own reflection in life, The movie “inside out” is about a
young girl named Riley and her individual emotions, the joy, anger, disgust, fear, and sadness.
She is yet living with a good life with her parents, in which her parents never realized the
parts of emotions. Emotions cannot be handled by someone; it cannot be manipulated or
controlled over for someone’s sake of happiness.
Joy leads the movie where she shows off herself more than the remaining of emotions.
She even asked why other emotions exists, where people are needed to be straightforwardly
feel only happiness. Happiness exists because of life according to my intuition of her actions
in the film because she believed on her Riley’s parents mentioned being their “happy girl”,
and Joy took it too seriously.
When Riley’s family moved to another place, they have indeed experienced big changes,
this happened that Joy needs a requirement of absence, and a presence of sadness. Hard core
things for some people experiencing in such state the language of emotions. Emotions are
sophisticating when learning its vicious contents. Riley when she was a kid, only knew that
life is joy, because her parents showed them her life is purposed to be full joy, which this is a
cause for her mental breakdown. Whenever we age, our emotions expand and lets us
experience other of its components especially the resonance of sadness. Sometimes, we let
others to respond and expect things that is meant to be sensible with our visualization. The
experiences we felt activates us and cause us to be on our standard model, people are unique,
but our feelings are the same. The film reminds the watchers to embrace the wholeness of
ourselves, give ourselves permission to not be “okay” and that we must give those around us a
chance to work through their emotional realizations. It’s not about trying to avoid
uncomfortable feelings but rather go toward them to get honest with ourselves and grow.

B. Kindly, answer the following questions below.

1. When we meet Riley, most of the time Joy is in charge of her thoughts and personality.
Which emotion(s)do you feel most often?
I often feel what I am, not literally happy or gloomy all the time but between it. I feel
joy and happiness when something that satisfies me the same goes with sadness for what
saddens me will oppose my joy, just like with other people, we felt emotions with our
different satisfaction, people are the same physically but mentally different. Our
personalities vary because of our different environment and yield a state of different taste.

2. What emotions do you feel are easy to express?

I can express myself fully when I feel at joy. When a person is happy, s/he intends to
share how does s/he felt happiness. Joy can give as an expression of showing an ease from
pain, it allows the person to substantiate easily and well to people because of the happiness
inside them.
There are also times that I can express my emotions through sadness since, it shows a
sympathy of showing true to ourselves majority when someone actively listens to our
concerns, sadness helps us understood the factuality to ourselves, because happiness can
either way fake our smiles.

3. Riley and her family go through a lot of changes when they move from Minnesota to
San Francisco. Have you ever gone through a big transition? When? What was it?
I have not done a big change before, but there are ways that permits us to make
changes because of purpose or for a reason. My family and I never gone through such state
to alter our normal living but there can be slight changes. We manage to stabilize the
functioning of a good family. It is not always the emotion that controls the life of a person,
it is faith that comes within, when you have strong faith, you remain the goodness to be the
same from who you are used to be.

4. How are the glowing balls, or “core memories” made? What are yours?
Core memories are made with every situation, scene, that have come through your
life, whether it can be a form of scenes of your family, friends, relatives, a setting you have
seen or dream places, it is a memory that allows us to remember until our last breath, they
are known for long lasting memories.
My bottom line or core memories that I have are those wisecracking times I had
with my siblings and friends, full of entertainments and amusing footings that can be
pictured out. Most instant essential memories of people are those that are pleasurable, they
fit well and kept heartily in our memory shelves because those are the times that aspires us
to live a life in our fullest.

5. When Riley’s mother tells her that she is helping her parents by being their “happy
girl”, Riley feels pressure to only show them joy. What do you think of this? Has
something like this ever happened to you? A time when you had to act or behavior
something different than what you felt inside? Explain this.
Riley had her emotions control her feelings toward her parents. It is not always joy
that promotes happiness, or that brings a good influence on any people. Psychologists do
not agree with having too much positive emotion on a person, it can lead to psychological
harm upon facing challenges that are inconvincible. For in my case, I have my limitations,
I do not raise any of my positive and negative emotions in which we should learn and cope
well to balance our emotions, in that way we can have a good result of mental health.

6. At the end of the movie, Joy learns that other emotions, especially Sadness, are also
important. Why?
It is not happiness that gives every life to be colorful or being out of problem.
Sadness is the reason how we felt happiness, it helps connects the people deep into their
feelings, it provides to reunite their feelings again and a way to grant people happiness.
Negative emotions do not always impact us with negativity, in real life, they serve a vital
role to our inside and outside environments to interfuse people. At early age of people, they
are needed to understand the speculations of sadness because this will lead to mental issues
when they come to be avoided.
On a scene where Bing bong, Riley’s imaginary friend, loses his place in her life
and memories. Joy overjoyed herself to Bing bong to go back immediately from who he
was for Riley to bring back her memories of him, but it does not seem to work out
unfortunately would give him a loss of motivation instead. While sadness managed to
cope with him by listening to his emotion invocating on sadness and which helps him to
tell him the truth of how he felts.

7. What are some ways you cope with sadness? Anger? Fear? Disgust? (Everyone gives
one coping skill for one emotion)

I can cope up with Sadness by allowing myself to be sad. I would let my tears fall
out until I feel relief, whereas sadness accompanies us to remove the pains inside us and
achieve happiness after. I sometimes do that motivates me or would inspire me such as
inspirational talks or doing what I wanted. Sadness could end up a change of our norms
unexpectedly or shows a gesture of changing ourselves.
Coping with Anger is a big deal for most, because it products a violence once
uncontrolled, I can manage myself when I lose control by calming myself, anger allows us
to think before speaking and then to express myself after calming and give myself a space
away from people for a while.
When I feel fear, I cope with it to breathe deeply and calm myself not shoving a
feeling to let others know. Although, fear can lead to trauma to us when excessive, because
it tends to raise the level of phobic and end up not to avoid it to ourselves at all costs.
Normally, people have different fears, but they can guide themselves well to be enough.
Disgust is an emotion that lets us throw up on something we hate, specifically
toward the people whom we trust, or love begun to betray us. By having this emotion, I
can manage with it by things in my mind that pops in my head, I would try to breathe and
letting my feelings not to control me over because it would lead to anger issues.

8. Do you think it is easier for males or females, or for younger or older people, to
express different emotions? Which ones? Why?
It is observed by most and the existence of gender inequality and differences is because of
emotions as well. They depend on the any of the emotion specifically but does not possess
a goal of combining. Women shows an integrality of stronger emotional expressivity, they
show a cheeriness or sadness more to be often while men have stronger emotional
experiences with anger and positive stimuli and expresses calmness as well.
