SDSFI - 3 Event Press Release
SDSFI - 3 Event Press Release
November 6, 2022
Semi Di Speranza Foundation Inc. (SDSFI), a non-profit organization known for its eye care and
wheelchair grant drives, has organized three (3) magnanimous events in conjunction with
Filipino Family Club International Inc. (FFCII) in honor of the World Sight Day celebration that
falls every October.
Since its inception, Semi Di Speranza has put forward its best efforts in aiding the lack of better
eyesight through its optical missions. In a survey conducted by the Philippine National Survey of
Blindness and Eye Disease Study, there are nearly 400,000 Filipinos with uncorrected errors of
refraction, and some 3.4 million had undiagnosed errors of refraction. But despite the growing
number of Filipinos with poor vision, people still do not prioritize eye health.
On the 16th of October 2022, the foundation worked with the local government unit of Valencia,
Negros Oriental, to cater to more than four hundred (400) less fortunate individuals, primarily
senior citizens, to address their eye health woes through free eye check-ups and eyeglasses. This
event was through the initiation of Dong Batalan, President of FFCII, who was also celebrating
his birthday on the same day.
Four municipalities in Benguet, namely Kapangan, Libungan, Tublay, and Atok, also reached out
to Semi Di Speranza through the help of Francis Leo Marcos, better known as the Pandemic
Hero. The Mega Humanitarian took place on the 23rd of October 2022 at the Kapangan
Municipal Gym, where approximately five thousand (5`,000) eyeglasses and eighty (80)
wheelchair recipients took part in the event despite the poor weather conditions and lack of
transportation. The venue host, Mayor Manny Fermin, welcomed the foundation and its partners,
expressing that the humanitarian event is an early Christmas gift for everyone.
And on the 25th of October 2022, Semi Di Speranza joined the Bureau of Jail Management and
Penology's (BJMP) annual event this year. In support of the Bureau's National Correctional
Consciousness Week (NACOCOW), the Cebu-based foundation extended its hands to BJMP's
Person Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and personnel through an optical mission in one of their jail
facilities, Metro Manila District Jail Annex 2. More or less four hundred (400) inmates and
personnel were accommodated.
According to Jail Senior Inspector Marc Francis Bauya, NACOCOW is one of the most awaited
activities for the PDL since it has become a window to connect the jail to the community,
especially to organizations that advocate promoting people's welfare, health, education, and
others. He also emphasized that the participation and service provided by Semi Di Speranza
Foundation Inc. have made their celebration more meaningful, knowing that their department is
currently challenged by the pandemic and constrained by budgetary provisions.
In recognition of the BJMP's efforts in uplifting the emotional and spiritual aspects of the
inmates in their detention facility, SDSFI, represented by its founder, Ms. Chili Tita Cabatingan,
also provided four (4) tablets, eight (8) smartphones, nine (9) smart TV, and five (5) laptops to
MMDJ Annex 2. These gadgets will be used by BJMP's clients' tele-hearing and e-dalaw
programs since non-contact visitation is the only avenue where the PDL can reach out to their
families at the moment. These devices will also aid the overall experience of the inmates through
better delivery of facility activities and education. The foundation and its partner, Filipino Family
Club International Inc. (FFCII), also donated one thousand two hundred fifty (1,250) kilos of rice
for the consumption of the inmates and employees.
The foundation also pledged to conduct optical missions annually to benefit the PDL, BJMP
employees, and the disadvantaged families of both. In addition, the foundation committed to
providing quarterly rice provisions to MMDJ Annex 2.
