Migrating from Earlier Releases of Mathcad
Users of PTC Mathcad 15.0 and earlier, see the PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 Migration
Guide. PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 has differences from PTC Mathcad 15.0 and does not
support all its capabilities. The Migration Guide provides information and procedures for
converting your worksheets to PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0. You can use the converter for
files in PTC Mathcad 15.0 and legacy files that can be opened by PTC Mathcad 15.0.
Installation
For the most up-to-date installation information, see the PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0
Installation and Administration Guide. In the PTC Installation Assistant, click Help or
browse for the guide on the Reference Documents page.
You can install PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 side-by-side with any previous version. For
installing PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 side-by-side with an earlier release of PTC
Mathcad Prime, the following limitations apply:
• PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 runs only on the 64-bit edition of Windows.
• You must install the products in an ascending order (PTC Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0 and
then PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0, for example) to maintain the worksheet file
associativity with the latest release.
• If you have installed two releases, by default Mathcad files open with the latest
release. To open files in an earlier release, you must manually set file association. In
Windows Explorer, right-click a file, select Open with, and then click the desired
program from the shortcut menu.
• After you install PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0, integration with Windchill Workgroup
Manager, PTC Pro/ENGINEER, Creo Elements/Pro, and Creo Parametric will no
longer work with earlier releases of the product.
• If you registered PTC Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0 or earlier with Windchill Workgroup
Manager, then you must repeat the registration with PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0. Use
the Application Management utility.
• If you have one or more releases of Mathcad installed on your computer, you can
remove one or all of them. You must uninstall them in descending order, and then
reinstall them in ascending order.
• After installing PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0, you can use the PTC Mathcad Prime
8.0.0.0 XMCD, MCD Converter. You can also use PTC Mathcad Prime 6.0.0.0 and
3
earlier Converter versions. Each Converter version creates an MCDX file matching its
application version.
• PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 XMCD, MCD Converter and PTC Mathcad Prime
7.0.0.0 XMCD, MCD Converter do not work side by side. On installation of PTC
Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 XMCD, MCD Converter, PTC Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0 XMCD,
MCD Converter is uninstalled. When you uninstall PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0, PTC
Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0 XMCD, MCD Converter appears in the PTC Mathcad Prime
7.0.0.0 Installation Wizard, but it does not work. To use PTC Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0
XMCD, MCD Converter, reinstall PTC Mathcad Prime 7.0.0.0.
• After installing PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0, you can use both the latest License
Wizard and the one from a previous version, e.g. PTC Mathcad Prime 8.0.0.0 License
Wizard and PTC Mathcad License Wizard.

For floating licenses, in addition to use of a single license server, PTC Mathcad Prime
8.0.0.0 supports the configuration of the triad license server.

Administration Guide.
