Discovery 1: Lab Familiarization (Base Learning Lab)

Introduction
When you deploy a wireless network, the installer usually performs the initial configurations. In this lab
environment, the initial configurations are complete. You will access various pieces of equipment that you will use
in the course and gather some basic information. You will enable a preconfigured WLAN on the Cisco Catalyst
9800-CL WLC and test wireless connectivity by using the Windows Client PC.

You will be provided with the credentials that are necessary to access the lab environment.

Topology

Topology Description
The topology represents a typical enterprise network with a main campus and remote offices. The main campus
contains the Campus C9800-CL WLC and a Cisco Catalyst 9115e access point. In addition, the main campus uses
Cisco Prime Infrastructure to manage the network equipment, Cisco ISE to provide network authentication, and
Cisco CMX to provide locate and detect services for the wireless devices, including analytics. The Cisco Catalyst
3560 switch at the access layer provides access for the APs. You will use a Microsoft Windows 10 PC for
administrative purposes. You will use the Client PC to verify the WLANs and other settings that are preconfigured.

A Cisco CSR 1000V router provides the routing. You will make no changes to the router in this course.

The remote campus contains a Cisco Catalyst 9115e access point and a a Cisco Catalyst 9800-CL WLC. In some
labs, you will use a FlexConnect configuration and access only the Cisco Catalyst 9115e AP in the remote office.

You will complete all management tasks in the remote offices via the Admin PC in the main campus.

Task 5: Connect the Client Laptop to the Wireless Network

Activity
In this activity, you will connect the client device to the SSID that you enabled in the previous task. In this course, a
predefined WLAN has a specific WLAN NAME and SSID. The SSID includes the pod group number and the pod
number. The lab system adds this information automatically. Due to the close proximity of the APs and clients to
other pods, it is very likely that you may see SSIDs from other pods. To ensure that your SSIDs are unique, and
that you can always know which one to choose, you will use the preconfigured WLAN and make modifications to it
https://learningspace.cisco.com/dkitserver/content/show?x=LJipP6N3qRodcruu&isLatest=true 10/13

in various labs. This approach will make it easier for you to find and remember your pod group number and pod
number. The format of the SSID is ENWLSI-CAMPUS-PGXX-PYY for Campus-C9800-CL and ENWLSI-REMOTE
PGXX-PYY for Remote-C9800-CL. As an example, if you are assigned to pod group 2 and pod 6, the SSID for
Campus-C9800-CL is ENWLSI-CAMPUS-PG02-P06.

Step 1
Log in to Client PC.
Click the Client PC icon. Enter the password 1234QWer in the Password field and log in.

Step 2
Connect to the SSID that you recorded in the previous task. Use Cisco123 as the passphrase.
Click the Internet access icon in the toolbar. If the icon is not found, use the Windows 10 search function, and
search for: Available Networks.

Choose ENWLSI-CAMPUS-PGXX-PYY, where XX is your pod group number and YY is your pod number.

Uncheck the Connect automatically check box then click Connect.

Enter the pre-shared key Cisco123 that is configured in the WLAN in the Enter the network security key field
and click Next. Answer No to the next security question.

Step 3
Verify the connection.
Click the Internet access icon in the toolbar.

Verify that the client is connected. At this point, you have not assigned the WLAN to a VLAN for access to the
Internet, so the No Internet, secured status is correct. This exercise is to verify that the client can see the WLAN
and that you can connect to it.

Step 4
Close the client laptop. This lab is complete.
