Stage 1 Academic Appeal Form

The student is appealing the decision of the Assessment Board regarding their final year project module. They began applying for internships after finishing their second year courses in May but did not receive any responses. In October, their university contacted them to continue their fourth year of study since they had not found an internship. They agreed to continue and attended their first fourth year class on October 16th where they received course materials, though the course had begun on September 27th. They are requesting additional time, at least one month, to complete their final year project proposal since it is a major module worth 20 credits and they want to earn a good grade. They want a suitable date and supervisor provided by the university to complete the proposal.

STAGE 1 ACADEMIC APPEAL FORM

STRICTLY PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL

REQUEST FOR A REVIEW OF AN ASSESSMENT BOARD DECISION or MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES

BOARD DECISION (ACADEMIC APPEAL)

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY

Students may only appeal against a final ratified assessment result that has been confirmed by an
Assessment Board. Students may not appeal against provisional results.

Any application for appeal must be received within 15 working days of the publication of the
decision which is being appealed. In the event of late publication of results, the deadline for appeals
will be fifteen working days from the revised date of publication.

Late applications will not be considered.

You must continue to abide by the decision of the Assessment Board, including completion of any
reassessment (re-sit) requirements specified by the Board, pending the outcome of your case.

The regulations regarding requests for review (academic appeals) can be found in Section 16 of the
Handbook of Academic Regulations, which are available online at www.westminster.ac.uk/academic-
regulations

You are strongly advised to seek guidance from the Students Union before you submit your
appeal.

Appeals will only be considered on the grounds for review as set out below and when they are
submitted within the deadline. Incomplete forms will not be investigated.

1. You may not appeal against the academic judgement of your assessors.
You may not appeal against the academic judgement of your assessors and may not therefore
challenge marks or the final classification awarded by an Assessment Board. If you believe that an
error has been made in the recording of any module mark, this should be raised with the relevant
Campus Registry Office as a results enquiry.

2. If you wish to raise matters relating to course provision or delivery, do not use this
form. Please follow the complaints procedure guidelines available online at
www.westminster.ac.uk/student-complaints.

3. Late claims for Mitigating Circumstances (MCs) should be submitted to your Campus
Registry Office using an MC Claim Form. They will be considered by the next scheduled
MC Board.
Where a claim for MCs has been rejected for the first time because of insufficient or inadequate
documentary evidence, a student should resubmit their second claim to a later Mitigating Circumstances
Board, but only if they are providing additional documentary evidence.

Since applied for all these jobs online and since there are no response at 28 th May and the last job that I
applied on 5th October since there were no response. I contacted at IIT campus and they responded by
email telling me to continue the 4th year since 12th October 2021. I made the decision to continue the 4 th
year by emailing to registrar and consent was given on 18th October but prior on 16th October I attended
the first class and the L6 course material was given on 15 th October. On the date L6 coordinator gave me
the lecture link by email. They gave me an approval letter on 18 th October by Kaushlya Hansapani
(Senior Assistant Registrar). They gave the module registration form. They gave fees details on 19 th
October and paid on 21st October. I confirmed that I informed by the registry that I can join L6 from this
week onwards on 21st October.
How do you propose your appeal can be resolved to your satisfaction?

If an appeal is upheld the decision will be in line with the Handbook of Academic Regulations. Normally
the appeal process cannot alter or amend published regulations.

Since the L6 course has started on 27th September and I was submitting my CVs to get an internship and
since I couldn’t get a proper internship and the time was passing the IIT campus informing me by email
asking me to continue the 4th year. So I agreed to follow the 4th year by that time I have lost nearly one
month of 4th year lessons with a main subject as a final year project. So I appeal to IIT campus to give
me adequate time and provide me with a supervisor to do my proposal and subject a date that is suitable
to me and IIT campus atleast one month to do my project proposal since this is the main subject of the
BSc (Hons) Business Information Systems and has a credit 20 and I want to get a good grade for my
project.
