Points to Remember
Production is and always has been a collaborative effort. Being among and working
with many people who assume a wide variety of roles, titles and responsibilities. The task
of planning and organizing a dance concert is an overwhelming and sometimes exhausting
undertaking. Therefore, it is crucial to have a well-thought-out plan of action and adhere to
the timing and schedule of that plan.

Points to Remember
Every production is unique. There is constant overlap and combining between areas
of responsibility that are worked out from show to show. What worked in a previous show,
may not work in the current show. Therefore, formulating standards for production planning
and design is one of the vital strategies that leads to a quality performance.

production design, budget, production staff and
rehearsal schedule.
Points to Remember
Dance Production has been a collaborative effort. All aspects of a production will have
specialist technicians and designers working on and bringing all their disparate disciplines
together to complete the dance production on time, on budget and as close as possible to
the Choreographer’s and Artistic Director’s original vision. It is an incredible amount of work
that has to be done.

Points to Remember
Production Calendar
Is very important in mounting a Dance Production. It is a timeline for all the contributing
parts of dance performance. The Production Calendar is used to schedule and manage the
following task involved in mounting a production:
1. Record Music or ask a Musician Director/composer for pieces appropriate for dance.
2. Make schedule for rehearsals
- Venue
- Equipment needed (CD player, head or handheld microphone, instruments)
3. Know the exact dimension of stage
- If to be constructed, give a deadline for dancers to rehearse
4. Design and Make Costumes
- design - order or ask costume designer to make all costumes
- materials - fitting - dress rehearsal
5. Look for competent and seasoned Production Staff
- Artistic and Technical Personnel
6. Coordinate with Lighting Director for lighting plots and designs
7. Coordinate with Set Designer and Artistic Scenery and props needed (hand and set
properties)
- Rehearsal with hand props - Rehearsal with set props
8. Make master CDs for the entire performance
- make sure that it is in the program order
- listen and review to all performance recording to ensure that music, speed and order
are correct
- listen for live accompaniment, give the musical director or head musician the order of
the performance.
9. Design and print posters, programs and tickets for the performance.
10. Provide publicity and other public relations to ensure people attend the performance.
Use social media for free publicity or advertising like make a Facebook page, Twitter,
Instagram and other social networking.
11. Check if production cost is within the limit or budget is not overshoot and all payables
are paid after the event.
Activity No. 1: My Own Production Calendar
Direction: As a production manager of a dance recital, create your own production calendar
on the selected role in preparation for the Dance Recital with a theme of “Love
Language” which will be performed on February 14, 2022. Create your production
calendar up to the day of the dance recital.
