Based on the recorded video presentation that Dr.

Refugio posted on his YouTube channel, is the

discussion of Ms. Abuso about her chosen research paper authored by Kingston Nyandoro entitled,
Language as a Factor Influence Teaching and Learning Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 in Moloto
Circuit of Limpopo Province. The discussant mentioned that in her chosen thesis paper, the researcher
uses a descriptive type of statistics. The discussant the proceeds to the presentation of tables on her
chosen thesis paper. The first table (table 0.14) was all about the relationship between performance in
English language and Mathematics literacy in School G, Moloto Circuit, South Africa, where the
dependent variable is Maths G and the predictor is Eng G. The speaker also tackled about table 0.15
which was all about the mean performance of English language and Mathematics literacy among
learners at School G in Moloto Circuit, Limpopo Province, South Africa. The descriptive statistics show
that the mean performance in the two subjects was higher in English language than in Mathematical
literacy. A higher standard deviation in Mathematical literacy (15.21) also indicates higher speed in
performance in Mathematical literacy than in English language (9.25). This shows that there was more
variation in Mathematical literacy than in English language performance.

The discussant then presents tables 0.27 which was about the relationship between performance in
English language and Mathematics literacy at ten schools in Moloto Circuit, Limpopo Province, South
Africa. She then proceeds to table 0.28 which was about the the mean performance of English language
and Mathematics Literacy among learners at School 1 in Moloto Circuit, Limpopo Province, South Africa.
The descriptive statistics show that the mean performance was higher in English language than in
Mathematical literacy. A higher standard deviation in Mathematical literacy (12.93) indicates higher
speed in performance in Mathematics literacy than in English language (9.03). The coefficient of
variation of Mathematical literacy (33.9%) was also higher than that of English language (19.3%). These
observations show that there was more variation in Mathematical literacy than in English language.

Finally, the discussant tackles about her critique with regards to the thesis paper she chose. According to
the discussant, the thesis paper doesn’t have anything wrong and everything is good in terms of
explaining each of the paragraphs which made it very clear to understand and interpret except for the
missing table which is 4.26.
