QUESTIONS RELATED WITH FREQUENCY

DISTRIBUTION TABLE

Yükleniyor…

a. Find the class interval that contains the median.

b. Work out an estimate for the mean number of hours.

Ex: Simon rolls a fair six-sided dice 30 times. He records the results
in a table, however misses two of the frequencies.

Yükleniyor…

The mean result is 3.5 Work out the two missing numbers.

Ex: The star rating, from 1 to 5, of hotels in a city are summarised

below.

The mean star rating of a hotel in the city is 3.575 Calculate the
value of the missing frequency, x.

Ex: Construct a histogram and polygon for the frequency

distribution below.

Ex: 600 people exiting the AMC movie theatre at Arrowhead Mall
were asked what type of movie they just watched. The results can
be seen below:

Ex: A survey was given to 200 people. The results are summarized in
the circle graph below.

a) How many peoples favorite sport is Tennis? 200 * 0.18 = 36

b) How many more people favored soccer than basketball?

Number that favored soccer: 200*.29 = 58
Number that favored basketball: 200*.22 = 44
Then subtract the amounts. Answer 58 – 44 = 14 more people
favored soccer than basketball.

Ex: 300 people attended a concert. The circle graph below

summarizes the ages of the people who attended the concert.

a) How many people at the concert were 30 or

older?
b) How many were under 50?

Ex: This frequency histogram represents the salary of employees in a

certain company.

Yükleniyor…

a) How many employees made at least 44 thousand dollars per

year?
b) How many made less than 33 thousand per year?

Ex: The ages of people attending a school assembly are

summarized in the histogram below.

a) How many people were at least 15?

b) How many were under 12?

Ex: 200 students took a final exam and the results are displayed
in the histogram below.

a) What percent of the students got an A on the final exam?

b) How many students got an A on the final exam?
c) c) How many students failed the final, if a grade of a D or F is
considered failing?

Ex: 300 men were measured. The results (in percent) are summarized in
the histogram below.

a) How many men had heights between 68 and 70 inches inclusive?

b) How many men had heights greater than 72 inches?

Example:

Ex: Twenty students, selected randomly were asked to estimate the number
of hours that they had spent studying in the past week (in and out of class).
The responses are recorded below.

Tabulate a grouped frequency distribution and a percentage relative

frequency distribution, construct a histogram and identify the distribution for
the given data.

How many percentages of the sales are between 8 and 10?

According to the histogram above, if you create a frequency distribution

table, what is the cumulative frequency of fifth class?

Mean– Grouped Data

Ex: The following table gives the frequency distribution of the number of
orders received each day during the past 50 days at the office of a mail-order
company. Calculate the mean.
