Learning Episode 1 Participate and Assist

A. Notice
1. Take note of the following:
• your Resource Teacher's comments, facial expressions, gestures, and actions in class
• An excellent relationship with students.
• Constantly asking how their day
• reminds them of their assignments
• manages the class very effectively.
• During lectures, she is extremely hands-on and very clear in teaching.
• She is really kind both outside and within the classroom.
• She also monitors and roams around throughout group work to simply check its students' work.
• student’s comments, facial expressions, gestures, and behavior in class
• A few students are highly attentive online and in a face-to-face class
• They feel bored by staring at their faces
• Their behavior is fairly decent in most cases.
• Few are loud, and some are not paying attention.
• Only the same students respond throughout the lecture.
• The warmth of the room bothers a few people.
• how your Resource Teacher relates to you
• I think it is the love and passion for teaching students. I believe we are both on the same page regarding
how we want the students to understand the lesson in a very clear manner. Always listen and recognize
the students' thoughts.
• the classroom proceeding
• Many students are capable of taking responsibility for their own behavior in the classroom. However, the
classroom is too small for them and, despite being air-conditioned, it is uncomfortably hot, which I feel
encourages students to concentrate on other matters rather than listening. Few students are likely to
complain about the warmth of the room. It is not helpful to students, especially in this sort of classroom.
• the classroom atmosphere-relaxed or threatening?
• The classroom is fairly relaxed, yet I feel the most disturbing part is how the classroom was physically
managed. I believe the room area was insufficient for the group since it was too confined and limited in
terms of movement, especially while performing group or performance exercises. During their
performance tasks, they help one another while also having fun.
B. Analyze
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards, and the TEDx videos that you viewed,
what competencies does a great teacher possess?
Answer:
The competencies that a great teacher possesses are envisioned to be a helpful guide in improving the
performance of teachers across the region, such as techniques and hands-on training to handle all types of
students and to provide certification for teaching, based on the PPSTs, Southeast Asia Teachers Competency
Standards, and TEDx videos that are viewed. They should also have good communication skills, interpersonal
skills in order to understand the needs of students, content knowledge, pedagogy, learning environment,
Diversity of Learners, Curriculum and Planning, Assessment and Reporting, Community Linkages, and
Personal Growth and Professional Development. Since they are the ones who make the classroom
comfortable, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?
Answer:
No, in any workplace where we can use our knowledge, abilities, and excellent judgment connected to
people's professions, and in connection with all the circumstances that may be lived in the exercise of
professional practice, I believe we can be professional competent if we learn to work hard lot, will be able to
accomplish greatness because of the determination, compassion, dedication, and perseverance. Even if you
are not a teacher, you are capable of accomplishing this.
3. For a teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to plan a lesson plan, manage
a class, assess learning, and compute and report grades? Explain your examples.
Answer:
A professional teacher is defined as a licensed professional who possesses dignity and repute, as well as
strong moral ideals, and technical and professional ability, and who adheres to, follows, and practices a set
of ethical and moral principles such as norms and values. Yes, having the professional competencies to
perform such things is sufficient, since a professional manage these things without prejudices and favoritism.
They study and work enough able to know make and create all about teaching. However, it should be enough
to possess only professional competencies but to consider also personal qualities, such as strong
communication and interpersonal skills, in order to identify the requirements and needs of the students. It is
important also for teachers how they bring themselves since it influences the impressions we generate on
students and colleagues.
There is a significant difference between being a teacher only and becoming an excellent teacher. Since
everyone is capable of being a professional and a degree holder however to be a great teacher is different.
4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important personal qualities or professional competencies?
Answer:
Personal qualities and professional competencies, in my opinion, are equally important in being a great
teacher. Personal qualities such as the capacity to work independently or in groups, versatility, adaptability,
flexibility, leadership abilities, and talents influence our professional competencies. A great teacher should
be able to manage their personal qualities since they may have an impact on their professional competencies
because being a professional requires you to be an expert in what to teach and how to teach.
A teacher should be able to manage and weigh these aspects equally, especially when teaching. Teachers
must also have a balance between those qualities able to have strong communication and interpersonal skills,
in order to comprehend the requirements of their students. They should make the classroom a pleasant and
inviting environment, and most essential, respect individual diversity.
5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?
Answer:
I remember most a teacher who imparts knowledge to us in a clear manner that helps us to comprehend
even the most difficult subjects. A mentor who assists us in becoming better versions of ourselves. A teacher
who is professional in the classroom but a friend outside who we can always resort to in any situation and
who teaches us how to behave on our level. A teacher who is encouraging and friendly, and who treats us as
if we are their children rather than students.
C. Reflect
1. Which personal traits do I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?
Answer:
I believe I have strong listening skills, versatility, sensitivity, and perseverance, all of which are useful in
teaching. I practice suspending my personal biases and favoritism. Also believing that I have a great sense of
responsibility and enthusiasm that may have an impact on the learning and teaching environment. However,
the implication of these is how you convey and communicate with your students, colleagues, and peers and
this is more likely what I want to improve. I believe I need to work on my communication/interpersonal skills
and how I present myself. Because I am not very good at communicating, I may stumble while conveying
information, and I am also not confident in how I represent myself.
2. Which professional competencies am I strongly capable of demonstrating?
Answer:
These qualities, which I feel I am capable of displaying are such as self-direction, being assertive, working in
a team, adaptability, responsible, making personal goals, and managing time.
3. In which competencies do I need to develop more?
Answer:
As a pre-service teacher, I believe the competencies I need to build include the ability to show effective
learning, which necessitates advanced knowledge, skills, and values. I need to think about how I can teach
my future pupils how to collaborate effectively and tactfully in a group to become decision-makers and
organize and manage their time. I need to develop integration competencies that will enable students to be
culturally competent, skilled, imaginative, and creative problem solvers as well as critical thinkers
A teacher who is encouraging, friendly, and treats us as if we are
their children rather than students.

D. Write Action Research Prompts

1. OBSERVE
In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as she includes an engaging classroom
presence, importance in actual learning, exchanging of benchmarks, and continuous love of learning, as well as
strong communication and listening skills, teamwork, adaptability, empathy, and patience and professional
competencies like embodying the quite good teaching standards, such as pedagogical competence, inventiveness,
and skill, are well-spoken, in good mental and physical health, are stable and tolerant, prefer to work with the
younger generation, and have good communicative skills, constantly demonstrate a high level of performance,
maintain teaching materials and the classroom organized, spends time preparing for each day of teaching, and is
respectful when speaking with colleagues and administrators.
However, because the classroom was small and there was a minimal movement for the students, especially during
group work, the teacher struggled to maintain appropriate classroom control. She is very calming during situations
unlike other teachers raising their voices and able students to gain their attention as a result, students were/ class
was led to students not paying attention, conversing with their seatmates, drawing, or using their smartphones.

2. REFLECT
The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies (mentioned in 1) may be caused by a lack of
management control, particularly among students who are noisy and do not pay attention, focusing only on
traditional teaching results in inattentive students.

3. PLAN
I would like to address this problem (mentioned in 2) by conducting action research on what are the challenges
of students in traditional type teaching-learning that affect their academic performance
4. ACT
The main objective of my action research is to know what are the challenges faced by the students in the subject
Araling Panlipunan

1. My specific research questions are:

• What are the challenges in the classroom students’ have experienced?
• What teaching strategy would you likely use by the teacher in teaching Araling Panlipunan?

1. To answer my specific research questions, I intend to do qualitative research and develop a questionnaire
to administer to a specific set of students. These will allow me to assess which challenges students to
face the least and most frequently, affecting their academic performance, and whether or not lesson
design and type of teaching have to be modified.
