Gemma North, 22, The University of Manchester

I’m in my third year at university. I’m studying to be

a doctor. It’s very hard and I’m often anxious before
an anatomy class or a difficult test, but I’m enjoying
it a lot. I have made lots of great friends and I’m
really grateful for that. I think the hardest thing about
university is living with people you don’t know.
I didn’t enjoy the first year much because my
housemates and I weren’t very friendly, but now I
share a house with three friends and that’s
awesome.

Mark Roberts, 21, University of Birmingham

I’m studying engineering and my course is quite

difficult. I have to work very hard to get all my work
done on time. Sometimes, I don’t do very well in my
exams. When I get bad results, I sometimes suffer
from a bit of depression and I feel like I can’t do
anything. When I first arrived, some other students
posted some offensive comments on social media
about me. I felt awful and I still can’t believe how
horrible some people can be. But I spoke to a
professor about this and I’ll always be grateful
for his support. I now have lots of good friends and
I have learned to have absolutely no tolerance
for bullying.
