Session-3- Bolted and Welded Connections
Get to Know How to;

§ Create Bolts and Bolt Holes


§ Create Weld
§ Create Assembly
Create Bolt Group
Create a bolt group

1. On the Steel tab, click Bolt .


The Bolt properties open.

2. Modify the Bolt properties, if needed.


For example, the Bolt group settings affect the end result.

3. Select the main part, to which the secondary parts will be bolted.

4. Select the secondary parts.

5. Click the middle mouse button to finish selecting parts.

6. Pick a point to indicate the bolt group origin.

7. Pick a second point to indicate the direction of the bolt group x axis
Create Bolt in Sample Project (Exercise-01)
From 3D view, go to Beam on top
of Column in Grid 8F

Create End Plate with thickness 10

Click Bolt, Select End Plate then


Column

Open Bolt Properties and change


accordingly
Create Weld in Sample Project (Exercise-02)
From Exercise-01

Go to Steel – Weld – Create weld


between parts

First select End Plate then select


Connecting Beam

Open Weld Properties and change


accordingly
Create Stiffener in Sample Project (Exercise-03)
From Exercise-01

Create 1 Stiffener Plate with


thickness 10 in top of Column

Change chamfer as indicated

Copy mirror stiffener to other side

Copy linear stiffener down to


Beam bottom flange
Add Stiffener into Column Assembly (Exercise-04)
From Exercise-03

Select 4 stiffener (*press ctrl key to


add multiple selection)

Right click and add to assembly

Select column, now stiffener


become 1 assembly with column
without need to add the weld
